I just had a post on stiff steering deleted, I'm wondering why. It said post on rack and pinion steering weren't allowed. I don't post much so did I do something wrong?
The Hamb is a traditional hot rod and custom forum. Modern suspension and steering systems are off topic. here are the rules https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/
I see there are post on air conditioners, Harbor Freight lifts, Panel adhesive, modern gauges and such. Is there a section I could ask about R&P? Most hot rods and customs are using front clips and R&P. I understand about traditional cars but there are very few built that wat way because of parts availability. I'm not trying to stir up trouble but there seem to be a lot of post that aren't totally traditional.
some things are a gray area but ifs clips and rack and pinion are not allowed...... did you read the rules that I sent a link to??
I read the rules and you are right, there is quite a gray area. You're the mod so I'll go with that but you might want either tighten up on the gray areas or make a section for more modern rods. I'd say most rods built in the last 20 years are running clips and R&P. From what I read in the forums I thought I was good. Not complaining, I'll just log on once in a while.
there should be plenty of street rod forums to answer your ifs related questions, this is not the place for that
This is now and has always been a traditional site, and yes there are grey areas, it was much more open when you joined but when the boss revamped the site several years ago he clamped down on a lot of topics, so don't expect a new hot rod category, as Mark pointed out there are other sites that cater to street rods I've built and helped built quiet a few hot rods in the last 20 years and not one had a clip or rack & pinion, I would think the vast majority of members on the hamb adhere to the traditional mantra. HRP.
I'm probably going to get banned but I didn't want a conversation with you guys. I guess I'm wondering how Fat Man and all the other manufacturers of clips ( there are quite few) and and four bars and R&P for straight axels stay in business. True, a lot of guys are building straight X cars but a lot are going for a good ride and comfort. There's a lot of discussion on the HAMB about air conditioning and other modern parts. Of the cars you helped build how many had 4 bars for the straight axle, or at least wishbones. How many had disc brakes. How many had new Steering boxes. It's common sense to be safe. The rat rodders are the ones using old parts that are just unsafe. What would you call a car that's been on road 42 years. Is that old enough to traditional? I've been across the country with my 34 Ply., had one breakdown in NY with a blown trans. Not bad. Now having said my piece it's up to you to take it or leave it. I don't want to get banned but if it happens so be it. I was done with this and I thought I was having a conversation with a moderator, not with people just wanting to start trouble with comments that don't concern them.
It's not a personal thing man... Just an editorial thing... I don't expect everyone to agree with my judgements... and that's cool. Not a reason to ban someone.
Air conditioning could be considered traditional. The 1940 Packard was the first car to offer factory-installed air-conditioning. By 1969, more than half of all new cars sold were equipped with A/C. The technology was available to our automotive forefathers.
