Well, its certainly "custom". If I were to hazard a guess what he had started with based on the photos, I might have went with NSU Prince...

Well sure...his reasoning is sound - trailers and hot rods go together, don't they...???

Personally, I like the "rounded corner" on the trunk...!!!

"Just looking for a good name for a build thread....anybody?"

    How about:
"We can rebuild him. We have the technology."

  9. Here is a "custom" crossmember and steering in my truck when I bought it:

    Modified floor plates:

Homemade bushing in bottom of steering column:

The truck had a modified steering column that was right up there with the one shown earlier in this thread. I have since replaced everything with a stock front end.

that was the drop centerlink out of the Wife's Falcon, it was taken out of a drag raced Falcon with an SBC in it and for whatever reason stuck in her car. the car was raced with that thing in it. Keep in mind that you could turn the steering wheel 3/4s of a turn before the passenger side tire would begin to move.

I've heard similar stories about this guy, the sad thing is people pay good money thinking they are getting quality work. When I was in Votech for Autobody we did better work then that, at least we welded the patch panels.

I built a 50 Chevy truck for a client.....the floor and rockers were plate steel torched out of the side of a caterpillar, still yellow. I found some concrete in the lower front fender, figured it got slung up there, nope, it was patching a hole in the fender.

We worked on a 53 GMC for a friend. He had just bought it. the steering column had 4 POORLY welded pieces in it. The front end is a metric GM of unknwn origion, bubblegum welded to the frame. Power steering box is outside the frame, hoses are torched through the fenderwells resting against metal. Flat steel for engine mounts, flex when revved up. On and on and on.......

A 49 ford in the shop now. When we got it, there was threaded rod for the M/C actuator. Bent like a taco when you mashed the brake.

Here's a chunk of a quarter panel that I save off an OT Mustang that we did for a customer. There's four pieces of metal here!!! Can anybody guess which part's the original?:D:eek:

We wound up with a LOT of hours into that project!

  16. here is a before pic of my car and then one after the car was stripped. Really hacked up and I did not show you the roof it is just as bad. However it is all been replaced with real steel and done the right way.

I would call that one, "Project Hot Mess".

After watching your other builds I am positive that it will end up perfect though.

Take a close look at this Ratrod Draglink. Guess they added disc brakes to make sure they could stop when the steering broke.

    WTF???
And everyone wonders why some states are starting to crack down on home-built and home-modified cars!

  22. Holy shit. For once I'm glad I live in a place that has strict safety inspections. That is just stupid.

this has got to be the dorkiest thing ive ever seen. i'm just imagining the owners eyes lighting up when the latenight-drunk-guy answers his ad as a joke.

  24. Are we sure that isn't a Nash healy?

Actually its ugly as butt, but it would grow on ya.

  25. It has that Nash Healey look now, doesn't it!

  26. Rebar. What a great idea. If you want to steal that idea I'd say go for #8 bar and make sure it is the weldable variety. ( yes, common rebar is not weldable and I know everyone has welded some but it is not recommended ).
