  8. I liked Coles car... the "554" coupe but the 15oz Coupe is still the one that excites my inner most being... sounds weird but I'd never like to see the 15oz restored... just maintained in it's controlled state of decay.

As Little Wing said, it depends a lot upon your age (when you were growing up). My grandson refers to my '69 Camaro (I've owned it for almost 40 years, now) as Grandad's Hot Rod Camaro. It's all relative, which is the point of this tread - what photo of a car defines "hot rod" for you. For me, it's a fenderless Hiboy coupe - such as my old Model A or my current '34 Ford 5 window project.

Very true, and geography. My dad graduated high school in 1965, and spent a lot of time in Michigan. The common hot rod of that era to him was a tri-five Chevy.

My 3-year-old daughter calls my ‘68 Camaro a hot rod. Anything with a loud exhaust or flames is a hot rod to her.

Correctomundo. To me that is a stock production car. A very nice one, but a stock production car none the less.

I'm not much for stereotypes and realize that defining what a Hot Rod is is purely subjective, but while scrolling through this thread my eyes got a little glassy when I spotted Rolf's coupe... again... and the Flamingos I Only Have Eyes For You started playing in my head. I don't even like red.

When I think 'hot rod', something like this pops into my head...

Or maybe this (minus the SBC)...

The basic ingredients may vary somewhat, but this is pretty much the gist.
