These two and the Milner Coupe will always be known to the general population as Hotrods.

But for me this is what Hotrods were and still are.

As a child this is the only car I thought was a hot rod.

my definition of shinerunner (assuming it has a souped-up/transplanted motor and beefed up suspension)

rodster...According to Don Mongomery, that blower was a one-off built by John Beverage (good name) in the late '40s. It was used on the Wright-Berg '27 T roadster, for a very brief time by Don Nicholson, this car of course, and a couple of others. So, it's no wonder you couldn't quite figure who made it. I do love this car too...has a "down and dirty", "I'm gonna kick your ass" kind of persona. A blown flathead Caddy engine...wowy.

Thanks, I feel much better. I was feeling vintage-speed-parts challenged the past few days trying to figure this one out.

Did I miss it when somebody posted an image of the Niekamp Roadster in the thread, or am I the first one to mention it?

This car that Muttley posted is what I see as a "definitive" hotrod...
It's a car that alot of guys "could" have (and did) had back then....not a "magazine" car, but a car more attainable by the average hotrodder.
It's not perfect, is "rough" around the edges....yet has the stance and the LOOK that many well finished, OVERDONE hotrods simply lack........

    It just fucking rules...

  21. Muscle cars killed the traditional Hot Rods of those days!

But it was cars like that coupe that inspired my builds!!

Please excuse that my cars in the past resembled Street Rods since they were built in the 70's and 80's except for the "Rocket Sled" which was roadworthy in 2006...

I guess it depends what generation you grew up in - or wished you grew up in.

For a street driven hot rod: Phil Cools 32 Roadster
For a show driven hot rod: The Munster Coach
For a dragstrip driven hotrod: The Winged Express
