They are not ****s...just set in there ways. Maybe a little to vocal about it but....To each their own. If everybody liked the same thing then all of our cars would look the same. What a boring world that would be. I love the banter. If anything it shows we have some p***sion or cars and I would like to think that is what HAMB is about.

Man, I'm glad you said that, you had my blood pressure up, and at my age, that ain't good!

Ya know, I'm startin' to like you, glad you decided to stay. Now don't do anything to that car till you lurk here a while, and absorb the knowledge. To paraphrase, "anyone can cut up a car, but it takes a man of skill, good taste, knowledge, and restraint, to do it right."
And please, don't call an old car a "whip", that's worse than the "R word" to me.

Well , here is another stock-ish one.
My dad does good to get around anymore but he sure got out today. He brought his 50 to us to make it run smoother. He just perverted his knocking 216 into a 60' 235 w/hydo lifters. We found an exhaust nut loose (see in mirror) and he's good to go.
Better get him on HAMB now before he runs out of years. His 50 is about all the wakes him up in the mornings anymore.

Wow. I open this cuz I like that era Chev and got an episode of the WWE as a bonus!

Back to Chevs and chops, be careful. Do you do your own or have it done? If the latter get a good guy that's got the eye for it. Easy car to **** up in a hurry. As far as "too nice" goes, ********. It's cheaper and easier to do a true period custom out of a whole car. It's no fun digging through pile of **** for years finding old bent up trim and interior stuff. I agree, skip the LS1 gig. SBC and some carbs and have at it. You've surely seen "La Jolla", right? If not go here:

    http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_car_photos/harry_bradley_desig/harry_bradley_desig-2/

    then here:
    http://public.fotki.com/Rikster/11_...ke/chevy_custom_cars/49-51_chevy_custom_cars/

and like said above, take your lumps and have some fun.

    GhostMN,
I am the self-appointed Nice Guy on the HAMB. (I once defended a guy for having poodle-claw scratches on his RED leather seats!)
The problem was not that everyone on the HAMB is old or set in their ways, it's that this site is for a very specific category of cars - traditional style hot rods and kustoms.
You can do whatever you want to your car, but everyone saying "do a search" is absolutely right - there are TONS of photos of '49-54 Chevies on this site.
Now, about the "don't cut up that car" people: they are not suggesting that all old cars should be kept stock. They ARE saying that a really nice, stock car should not be customized. If you are going to chop a car, repaint it, replace the drivetrain, etc., you start off with a rough or incomplete car. Why? Because a really clean, really nice stock car cannot be created from a customized car. Once it's molested, it's molested. But you CAN make a really nice kustom from a field car.
My current project was a field car with no interior, no gl***, no motor, no interior, and no chrome. Why? Because I'd be throwing all that stuff away, anyway.

And, in defense of those going after you, if you paid $9K for a "rough" car then you're either too rich or too dumb. $9K should get you a MINT Chevy tudor, not a rough one. Yours looks pretty damn mint in the photos. The paint, in particular, looks beautiful. So the question is: why pay more for a car with nice paint if you're going to have to repaint it after the chop anyway? (Unless you plan to only repaint the roof? In that case get someone GOOD to do the chop!)

    GhostMN,
CHOP IT and SLAM IT!!!! Just make sure it's done right, I wish my Chevy was in that good of shape when I got it. Then I wouldn't be working on the floor pans, I'd be CHOPPING IT!!!! But seriously, I think everyone wants to make sure you dont **** up a beautiful car. Whatever you do, don't put a LS1 in it!

Hell, I'd put an LS1 in my car if I had one laying around. But I wouldn't tell anyone. And I'd keep the hood closed. Until it ended up in Street Rodder Magazine. And winning a Goodguys award.

I am going to chop and slam it. I have done many frame offs before. I have started with a field car and it ****s. Spend an entire winter replacing trunk and floor pans...no thanks. True, the car is really clean. But it is not like it is a perfectly restored 50 chev that sells for 25k. Like all my projects in the past...I will take my time and do it how I want it to look.

    Thanks for all the posts.

  16. Do us all a favor and go away.

You obviously don't respect the unwritten rules of this site (rules that most all of us have the respect to abide by), so don't ask us to respect you, your opinions, or your $9K "project".

Why CHOP it and SLAM it? That wouldn't be very original. Maybe you should DONK your WHIP instead. It's such a cute car though.:p

Here is a '49 I built. I bought the shell from the cowl back, which had been chopped already. I did the trunk and doors.
Welded in a Pontiac Ventura front frame, with small Olds V8.
Dropped, etc. A three year build in my spare time, but I loved it.
'56 Corvette tail lights with stubbed caddy lenses, '41 Ford rear window, Plymouth bumpers etc. All old school.
    Here are a few pics.
    Cheers,
    Bob :D

I agree. I want to bag it and see how it looks. Go from there. I do not think you can visualize how the car flows before it is lowered. Then you can really stand back and SEE the entire vision.

  30. I'm a guy who didn't come on this board and start chirping at everyone like a kid who deserves a sorting out. Do whatever the **** you want to do with your car, just don't come asking for help or advice. Don't bite the hand that feeds, ***hat.

READ THE RULES AND SUGGESTIONS PAGE, THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON!

Please close this thread, obviously this clown knows more than anyone of us, and therefore doesn't need our input into his up-coming disaster.
