I've written the history of the New Jersey Timing ***ociation (1952-1968). Its quite lengthy and I have ***LOTS*** of pictures from the years 1953 to about 1957. I would expect to post it in sections. It is written in chronological order so pictures would be sprinked throughout the text. How big could each chunk of the story be? I'd probably post them a few days apart.

If it's really that lengthy, maybe try breaking down into segments that only cover a year or two at a time. Make a separate thread for each section. As you add new sections post a link to take the reader directly to the earlier segments. You could even add a link in the earlier posts to go to the newer ones as they're added.

Make the thread ***les similar so they can be searched easily. Keep image sizes reasonable to speed up your uploading and make the pages open faster. About 1000 pixels on the longest side would be big enough. Maybe a maximum of about 8 or 10 images per post to help break things up a bit.

If you're posting a particularly long text p***age be sure to break it into paragraphs. Mix your pictures in with the appropriate text if you can. It makes it much easier to read and follow along that way.

Don't try to post everything at once. Start a thread and add to it bit by bit so it doesn't seem like such a chore. Put it out there and add to it when you can. See how it goes over. It sounds like a perfect thread for the HAMB and it should be well received.

I'm looking forward to the first installment. :D

Thx for your thoughtful reply. Some of it I don't understand (e.g. links) but the idea of starting a thread and adding to it I do understand. That will enable useful feedback, too. I'll work on defining segments and how many pics with each. I understand compressing pics so I'll make sure all pics are a lot smaller than they were as scanned. Can pics be interspersed thru text as they would be on the page of a book or can they only be added at the end of a chunk of text?

You can copy the info that's shown in your browser's address bar for any page on the HAMB (or from anywhere else on the web for that matter) and paste it into your post like this...

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-in-your-flathead-combustion-chamber.1044246/

It then becomes a hyperlink that can be clicked on to take you directly to that page.

As far as picture sizes go, reducing the actual pixel dimensions is more important than compressing them. Though a bit of compression will help reduce the image file size, which can be a good thing. Just don't compress them so much that the image quality suffers. :(

And yes, you can place images anywhere you want in your post. Place some text, hit enter a couple times to leave a bit of space between things and then post the desired pics. Repeat as necessary... ;)

    Edit to add:
Actually you can't place pictures just anywhere you want. You can't wrap text around pictures like you see in a newspaper or magazine. But you can place them between blocks of text, from top to bottom, as described above.

PM me if you get stuck on anything.
