Just wondering about two replies to for-sale ads I have that show up on my "profile" page rather than coming to me as a conversation (PM). I dont know how they are doing that or if I am doing something wrong? My concern is I dont look there for replies and therefore could miss their message. Thanks,
Hopefully one of the moderators will sort this out but, I still can't fully grasp the conversation thing either. When I send someone a "conversation" it shows up on their profile page but, if and when they respond, I get the red alert but their response never shows up on my profile page. I have to go to theirs again to read their response on their profile page. I have to admit I liked the old pm system much better.
When the red alert comes up on the envelope click on it if there is a new message it will show it click on that and it will open just like a PM did no need to go to your or the other persons profile page. If you want to see old conversations click on the show all and they will all appear just like they did in the past.

The answer is that the users are communicating with you via the profile page rather than via PM. A user can post a comment to your profile by visiting your profile, and leaving a post there. They can also communicate via PM by choosing to 'start a conversation' with you. To start a conversation with a user, click on the user's name and wait for the pop up, then click on 'start a conversation'. this method will result in a private conversation much like the old PM system. The profile post system is not intended for private conversation but for comments of a more informal nature. It is simply a feature of the new system that TJJ is using. You can choose to use both 'conversations' and 'profile posts' or one or the other, or none. If people are going to communicate with you that way, you should probably get in the habit of checking your own profile occasionally. In either case though, you will receive some sort of notification that you have a new comment or a new conversation reply. So it isn't like you'll have to go hunting for it. Hope that helps.
I get no pop-up when I hover over their screen name...I just now hovered over corndog's name above and all I get is his member # in the margin at the bottom of the page. No pop-up, so I would have to go to his profile page and start a conversation there. It all seems counter-productive to me unless I'm doing something wrong, which is quite possible.
Instead of putting your cursor over his avatar, just put the cursor on his name ( there is no pop up ) just click on hIs name and it will take you to his profile which you have the option of seeing his posts or starting a conversation.
Sorry, click on the user name, and then click on "start a conversation." I fixed it in my original post too.

Wasn't so much that as I typed faster than my brain could keep up. Or I was distracted by something. But yeah, I think we are all still digging into the new house and looking around for all the secret hiding places.
