State Capitol in Baton Rouge is still there. I haven't been there in years. No Problem Raceway in between Baton Rouge and New Orleans is newer with nice tower and sports bar on site. Just to let you know.

Personally i prefer 1/4 but i would attend a nostalgia drag event if it was only 10 feet long just cause i love'em .As far as a track Redline near Greenville is a nice track (been there many times ),and they have paved pits and clean restrooms. The bleachers are also real close to the track if i remember right.Redline ,Denton ,and Paris tracks are all about an hour from me but in 3 different directions. Its like a dream come true to have an event within pushing my car distance from my house.I hope we can all make this happen.Let me know i can help with anything on this ...

Word on the streets is the new Crandall track will be 1/4 mile. They are about to pour concrete in the next week or two. It is supposed to be finished soon, as they do have an IHRA national event planned for next season.
Not many whores or bars in this area, but the racing could be good!

If it was in Caddo Mills its only like 5 miles from Greenville where there are motels and clubs that we could totally take over for a night or two. I only bring it up because its 15 miles from my house of course......well and i keep reading old articles about Caddo Mills drag stip in my old mags.......Plus that historic bit of pavement at the airport is still there.......anywhere close to Dallas would be cool though.........

1/8 mile for me is like going out to eat and only getting the appetizer. Just not quite enough!
    Just my 2 cents.......

denton, cedar creek and redline seem like the 3 best places. denton sux. shit always breaks there. :D but with the junk yard next door it has poteina. redline is my favorite but might not be the best place. cedar creek is the shit but watch out for the dip in the far lane.

i vote for 1/8 mile. i have no desire to run a quarter mile in my roadster. LOL! whichever you decide i'll help if i can and i'll be there.

I used to run grudge nights in a 440 Duster, over at the 1/4 mile track in Illinois. ( Gateway) back around 1987
Never tried 1/8 mile, wasnt geared for it.
Watched 1/8 mile a few times, fun was over before ya knew it, in my opinion.

Never been to the track in Denton but pass by it alot.
I think location wise, Denton would be good.

Like stated before, i think you would get alot of the Okies attending that find Temple to be too far.

Just a thought that needs to be added to this:

Ennis and Houston and Seguin are all sanctioned tracks, and as such, enforce the rules and regulations of their national sanctioning bodies (NHRA, & IHRA). I believe that many of the participants who ran at Temple might be unable to pass the very stringent tech requirements at these more 'big time' tracks. Smaller tracks, like Temple, Denton, etc are much less formal, and perhaps more willing to let you actually 'run whatcha brung.'

I thought we were talking a race? with race cars? I would like to think most participants would be legal anywhere......that is why i thought thunder valley would be a good place for the okie side of this deal it is a large nhra track... Ill stay tuned and see what happens ...

I think we are talking an event like Day of the Drags or the HAMB drags. Where a bunch of like-minded folks show up and run their hot rods, customs, purpose built drag cars, nostalgia drag cars, gasser-wannabes, whatever. Run what you brung. You've been to one of these events, right? Or at least understand the concept?

Point is everyone goes to race and have fun, but it's not so serious of a "race" that anyone really cares that there aren't any real standings or awards or competitions.

If you want to go to an event to race only pure-race cars, go to any local track on the weekend or one of the Goodguys drag races or the Hot Rod Reunions.

The HAMB drags, Day of the Drags, and now the Jalopy Showdown drags are the only 3 events like this that I can think of. 3 events out of hundreds you could attent with your car and "compete." So why complain about them?

  28. Whatever it is, I want to be able to run without a helmet like DOTD. That's a big expense for one or two uses a year. I might get into the low 14's with a tailwind.

So, might have to check on track or sanctioning body safety rules about that.

If you're looking for a nostalgic feel, Cedar Creek would be good, but it really is out in BFE. I don't care for Denton personally, but given the location, I think there would be a better all around turnout because of location.

Denton is the only way to go. It's right off the highway, it would get more participation from folks further north. All the others are hard to find and in crummy areas with no night life.

You have to keep this thing away from NHRA sanctioned tracks if you want a good turnout. Any "real" track is going to look at a roadster and laugh. Anything running in the 12s better have a pretty nice up-to-date cage. As for 1/8 versus 1/4, the only difference is 25 more mph and 1.52 times the amount of time on the track. All the real racing is done by that time anyway and it's easier on parts that people might have to drive hundreds of miles back home.

Stay away from that Yello Belly piece of shit, I won a race there and the guy's buddies came and loosened my right front wheel when I got my slip, good thing I decided to leave instead of run again.
