    hey guys,

i know this has been touched on previously but just for the hell of it i thought id ask again.

lets say your running around 3-400 hp in your early to mid 50s car and its sitting on the ground via some cut coils and stock leaves with a 3 or 4 inch block on them.

when you go to launch or smoke the hides, is the car going to have awful axel hop and twist that spring up something awful?

this is with a FULL leaf pack, non takin out at all.

it would seem to me it should be fine but every one says that the blocks end up increasing/changing? the leverage on the rear and itll twist up.

if so could you just throw in a single link like on a 3 link set up that runs from Aprx the pumkin forward ~or backwards for that matter~ to a cross member and solve your twisting leafs problem?

also, if youve actualy had some hp and 4 inch blocks with a stock leaf pack id love to here from you because your word is worth more to me then the hundred guys that are going to say "i heard that if you......"

    thanx

Yup, blocks that big will cause m***ive spring wrap under load. Even my 117 HP Plymouth with 4" blocks has wheelhopped(in the rain or on sand/gravel). The 3rd link you mention is very very common in Stock Car racing, and would solve your spring wrap/axle twist problems. You'd have to be careful setting it up though so that it doesn't bind.

As an alternative, You could have your springs de-arched to get the drop. If you're creative, you can come up with a traction bar setup that won't cause you to loose ground clearance.

maybe this is why hot rods (the go fast kind) traditionally have the *** end up where it belongs?

just an observation, not trying to start a war :)

That is a problem I have on my '60 Chrysler. I only have 2" blocks and a stock 413, but if put my foot in it while there is a load in the back, the drive shaft will rub on the floor.

When I changed my '36 to parallel leaves with big lowering blocks, spring windup was very noticeable. Felt like clutch chatter. Trailing arms (like Traction Masters) on top of the axle cured the problem.
