Well today while running to my pars stash my 01 GMC 2500HD pickup lost power steering and its power brakes. Any guesses as to the problem?

I would assume there must be a common booster for both steering and brakes which went bad. The belt seems fine and fluid is good. Any help would be great although I do need the workout with no power steering - the brakes are not all there without out the power boost.

Many 3/4 Ton trucks & luxury cars (and others - Buick GN, Mustang Cobra, etc come to mind) have hydro-boost brakes - that is, power brakes assisted with hydraulic power instead of vacuum. These setups share a common pump that powers not only the steering, but also the brakes.

Check your "power steering" pump & hoses

Something else in the hydro-boost vein are the Oldsmobiles & Caddies from the early 80's that had the diesel motors. They used the power steering pump as well to power the brakes, I believe...where's Hack? HACK!
