Started working on my 41 chevy coe and realized the hydroboost from my 2001 chevy 3500 cutaway van donor cannot fit under the hood attached to the firewall. What have you folks been using for power brakes? Dave
Many COEs I've seen have the master cylinder turned sideways, similar to the early 70s chev, ford, and dodge vans. I found this one at Summit. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all41013
Good ideas guys, on the stock after market ones what do I search for? Just small hydro boost brakes master? Dave
I just looked at the first one Steve recommended, if my donor master would work on that and clear the steering that may work. It would be a night mare to bendup all that tubing behind the dash.
I just stuck the hood on the cab today and measured about 7 inches of clearance firewall to hood. Dave
I would say that's about right for the space where the 1941 MC used to be in my truck as well. It was plenty of room for the StepVan bellcrank setup that turns everything to the right then the available space widens a bit so the booster fit with room to spare also... Only caveat is that I rebuilt my badly rotted hood so my dimensions could be a little different than stock but I suspect they are close...
I had an optical illusion with your picture, yesterday I thought it stuck straight out of the firewall, now after close inspection I can see it turns hard to starboard. The search is on again. Could you give me an idea of about what year and size stepvan you got the bellcrank from. Dave
Here is how I solved the issue, I have no access to the area in front of my firewall without unbolting my grille, (Autocars are different) so I went with a master/slave cylinder from a Triumph Spitfire clutch system. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/autocar-build-thread.1055917/page-9 halfway down the page, post 244
This is the setup i made for my 40 COE.I thought I had a pic of this set up on the fire wall ,but I didn’t. So I laid it out on the table and took these. At the point farthest away from the fire wall is 7 1/4”.
