it came with 882 75cc cly heads n thin steel headgasket . I read the 882s were not very good, so I got a nice set of the 441 75cc heads . then a hot rod guy cleanin up his place gave me 327 896 heads n 520 heads that had been sitting for a long time, I looked them over n the 896 heads had larger valves (1.94 intake) installed and looked like they had been gone over at mach. shop. all said n done the 896 heads a .022 head gasket .020 below deck 60cc n 12cc for dished pistons come out at like 9.80 to 1 comp. Am really just looking for somethingto pull a old pickup truck around not racing thanks

Shows you how to match vortec heads, cam etc.. with that same shortblock you have.

    Ended up with 384 hp

ok i'll take a look I don't have much money in this project. Alot of hours taken the camper apart which was done last year when everything was in a lockdown because of Covid. still to get a complete running eng n a trans for 250.00 was a good deal. I wanted to get all the parts n not go chasing everywhere to get some missing bracket The motor home came from a estate n the guy's daughter said her dad took very good care of it n she thought he had the trans gone through

I recked my piston to top of block measurement 1st i made a piston stop n degree wheel found tdc exact, ckd with dial caliper depth gage. .040 at 3 n 9 ok piston positions also used soft soder in bore with head on (no gasket) rotated eng n measured soder .040 again. far differnt than the .020 i thought it was. must have builder pistons installed but was never decked so will need thin steelgaskets to get quench down It will never have more than .055 quench unless it's decked (.040 down and .015 steel gasket)

As I mentioned, (pic I posted) of the piston (***ume yours is the same) I’m at 9 or 9.1 as I recall (factory spec) with 64 cc heads and .022/5 (memory thing) compressed gasket.
Do you have a over bore stamped on the pistons?

The “ridge” on mine sit from .020-.025 as I recall, again this was a factory block with no work at the shop.

no nothing on pistons I did measure the top of cly with my vernier dial gage pointers n got like 4.0 but not accurate. I calculate with a aprox 64 cc head chamber i would just be over 9 to 1 comp -> .o40 below deck, ,015 gasket 64 cc head, 12cc for dish in piston using summit comp calculator. my eng came from a motorhome with 50 thou miles getn parts from rock auto very good prices

I have no explaination why the pistons are down .040 in the bore except someone replaced them with aftermarket pistons ?. I ckd n recked it's .040 down was ckd with a vernir dial caliper at exact tdc. and turned engine over with soder on top of piston n head snugged down. measure the soder crush with veiner caliper n starret mic .040
