Hello All, I have what I believe to be a one year 1963 or 1964? cross ram with 4 holes showing at each carb flange. I also have a Power Ram (friend is buying this off me) on the bottom it looks like there is an open slot as cast, I do not think anyone cut this out, any ideas in this? maybe to get warm oil to intake to warm up motor? not that you want warm oil on the bottom of an intake. Appreciate any insight you all have. Tim
It should be an exhaust riser. It would have been to warm the intake. I may be wrong but that is what it looks like to me.
It may have been nothing more than a way to get the core sand out of the casting. It's hard to visualize but I believe they put a core above that area so there wouldn't be a solid chunk of aluminum there.
I enlarged the pics, please select "full image" when posting it makes it easier for people to help. also if you would crop the black out the pics would be larger yet...
I don't think it is an exhaust riser. Zoom in and you can see that both sides of the exhaust riser ports were eliminated in the casting. If they were ever there someone did a darned fine job of blocking them. I'd agree with the conjecture that it's a slot for the core sand to drop out of.
