I had to take the fittings off the power rack when rebuilding the front end on my El Camino. I put fluid in the pump dropped her on the ground and when I started her up the steering wheel went nuts in my hands going dangerously from side to side, very scary indeed.
What the heck is going on? The car drove fine before and it can be driven without power steering but I'd like to have it working.

  2. Let's see, 59 Chevy power steering unit is on the center link bar. The brain (control unit) sit off to the left side and you have a hydraulic ram. I'm thinking you have reversed the hoses.

reversed hoses is what is wrong here. Ford products will do that as well.

Be sure to purge the system
No weight on the front tires. Lock to lock a few times to get the air out
