okay guys this may be a dumb question but here it goes. My victoria is a power steering car, An at some point in time the hydraulic ram got damaged. Can I just remove all the old hydraulic hoses an ram an just run the box manual. It still feels like it is in good shape.

I wouldn't see why not. It is a power ***ists so it is not real power steering (at least in my mind). Without it you have manual steering.

What you might do, because those are rare bits after all, take all of the PS stuff and sell as builders/cores. Heck, those eaton pumps are even getting hard to find

Thats what I figured buy wasent sure. I always read about guys putting after market power steering on their car but never just pulling it off an useing the box for manual. I am going to save all the stuff off of it an sell it.

I'm not sure, but you may need a new tie rod, and at least idler arm to actually convert it to a manual steering car, as the PS cars obviously had different tie rods and not so obviously different idler arms. I do believe that the ratio on the boxes is the same, with that being said I have never driven a manual steering '54, but I know my turning ratio is pretty sad, to say the least!

Mine is only manual steering and it turns pretty well for a non ***isted turning car. I feel that I can turn pretty well with the car and I only want power steering when I am sitting still or when I'm just being lazy. However right now I just want my steering repaired no matter what.

I found on ebay the whole steering set up except for the box of course its all nos stuff so I was going to order that an replace everything. The manual steering dosent bother me at all I had a 53 belair that was all manual too an I drove it everywhere

Oldshoolbelair, Concourse carries alot of the parts to rebuild or exchange what you need if you want to keep it original. When I rebuilt my steering this is were I went. A yr ago after doing a jeep change over on my 55 I did the same to my two 54's. Steering is much faster now lock to lock.
