I got a u-make-it power steering hose kit from a company called gotta show earlier this week. The guy on the phone assured me that it would work with my power steering pump from my nailhead. I told him 5 or 6 times that it was a 66 buick with a round pump and a male AN fitting on the back. Just for reference it's the on on the left.
Back to my story, I get it in the mail and it's got a damn banjo fitting for the end that goes to the high pressure line. Well, the newer pumps have a female fitting that can use that banjo fitting. For reference, it's the one one the right. Notice how much shorter it is. What should I do to resolve this problm? Should I send the whole thing back? Should I try to find an AN fitting that will fit on the male fitting? (I'm really considering this option.) Does anybody happen to know what size this fitting might be? Could I have a machine shop turn a piece with the old back half and the new fitting front? Thanks in advance for the help.
As I recall the two fittings in your picture will interchange in the pump, if one of them fits the hose, use it. you can get a 3/8" inverted flare union, and machine one end to fit your pump fitting, and use the hose on the other side. the threads should be the same.
