awsome choice on engines! i agree the point dist is ok but i personally like the hei upgrade. they are usually pretty cheap. i am in the slow process of putting a chevy 292 inline in my hudson. still a few things up in the air.

021k26rr, i don't think there is much difference except the truck engines usually had heavier flywheels and clutches so heavier spinning mass should mean more tourqe.

Considering the drivers side motor mount comes straight out from the engine, did you rotate the steering wheel all the way to make sure the pitman arm doesn't hit it?

The mounts that Langdon sells are offset on the drivers side to clear the steering...

  12. Great engines! With their 7 main bearings, they last forever and will wind up without "whipping" the crank. I used a rebuilt 292 in my little 68 chevy shortbox for years. I used a clifford 4 barell intake with a Q-jet, clifford 6 into 2 headers, a late HEI and hooked it to a 55 chevy 3 speed overdrive tranny...got decent mileage and had all the power in the world.......enough to eventually trash the tranny and went with a 700r-4.

I did this same swap for a customer years ago, I remember the fab work was more then I expected plus the owner insisted on 3 weber side drafts, looked preety wicked but I had a heck of a time modifing the manifold so the back carb would clear the steering column. The biggest dissappointment to me was with the duel exhaust it sounded nothing like a 235 with split exhaust and if I'm going to run a 6 I need that particular sound!

Do you have the driveshaft from the donor? It may bolt right in.

  17. Now you can buy motor mounts to make the front a bolt in, for about $100 or so.

Nice job on the engine swap. I ran a 250 in the 48 for years until I wore it out to the point that I think the pistons swap holes on each stroke. over 200K on the engine and it has never had the head or pan off though.

  20. I just wish I could find out what farting around is involved to put a T5 behind a 250, if you need a 4.3 stick bellhousing or have to shorten the input shaft or what.

You did a great job on that one Brother. That video doesn't do the sound any justice.

Great job Rooster. I just got my 250 last week. It has been completely rebuilt and hasn't been run yet. The sale of the motor included a bunch of extras including an aluminum offy 2 carb intake and two sets of single rochesters to choose from. I already have a 700r4 and a rear out of 69 or 70 nova to complete the swap. Now I need to find the time to get in the garage and get the damn thing done. What radiator did you use, stock or donor? Oh yeah, I still need to find a drive shaft to cut. Damn, I can't wait till this is done.

My 52. Time to say goodbye to that old worn out 216.

P.S. Thanks for the motivational post.

hell it was a fun build.....the radiator was in the car...i have no idea what it was for but was a close fit..it took a little trimming to get it in there...
nice looking ride you have there...good luck and if i can guide you in any way just pm me....

Thanks Dave. I'm sure I'll have some questions, being my first build and all.

Depends on which t5, but most from a chevy s10/astro/camaro should be a direct fit. only trimming I know of is for use behind a 235, and that is null if you use an adapter and the new style bellhousing.

later s10s use a different animal

  30. Wow what a great build, how did you build the trans cross member....I see that it did fit with no cutting....awesome build....
