Folks, I am rebuilding an air cooled Powerglide. I would like to modify to have fluid to cooler Radiator, below are some pictures of the pump, and valve. Which hole should be plugged.
    As always thank you HAMBERS IMG_1024.jpeg IMG_1027.jpeg IMG_1026.jpeg IMG_1025.jpeg IMG_1028.jpeg

So I guess that is not the cooler bypass valve. There is nothing where the valve goes. What do I need to do to get external cooling
    Thank you

I think I only worked on one air cooled powerglide and this is one modification that I have never done. From what I gather, if the case is drilled for cooler lines, you just have to hook them up. One thing I found says that the cooler by-pass valve is taken out of the air cooled units. This would mean that you would have to install one or the oil would completely by-pass the cooler. Another says that it is there and simply opens with the flow from the air cooled convertor. In either case, the oil coming out of the convertor is used to lubricate the gear train so you need to insure that you have flow.

Call Northwestern Transmission Parts, 800-327-1955, Oh. They been around 50 years and also make parts, if they don't have an answer they should know a shop that will.

  5. I did that mod to an air cooled 'glide MANY years ago! I think I remember getting a pump from another 'glide that had the bypass circuit disabled putting the oil through the cooler lines. However I assume you can use the original pump by modifying the bypass circuit. I remember reading you just remove that blocking valve you show and fluid will divert to the coolant line ports. Coolant will still flow with that valve installed but is extremely restricted.
