Hi! Shortest POwerglide is....? Found one "short", 27 9/16", short enough for a late 50´s FED? Thanks Guys!!
should be one a couple inches shorter, from the early 60s. Aluminum powerglides were first used in 1962.
Just happen to have a shorty glide sitting next to me. It's out of a vintage FED Measures 17.5 inches or 44-45mm. If you lived closer I could make you a sweet deal on it. Best of luck! B.Drag
Here are picts. of the old glide. It has trans brake and 9" converter. It came in the dragster I bought so I don't know the exact details other than it did work but required a explosion blanket. I spent $4,000 on the replacement Reid cased glide, a SFI approved case, billet internals, custom converter.....ect. The old trans has been sitting around since then.
It's a good set up. I went a little overboard on the new trans it's rated for 1500hp. my engine makes less than 700hp. My drag racing buddies like to spend my money on stuff I really don't need but it's good insurance and one less thing to worry about.
tsr-racing .com will shorten your stock shaft for about $100. ***uming you dont need a hi HP application as a racing shaft and drum are pricey. Then just get the rear plate and seal. There is a a bushing and a bearing rear plate if I remember correctly.
Cast Iron Glides are pretty short too, as I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago. About 26" long. But the 2" adapter plate must be used, increasing total length to 28". Just a thought.
