my wife and i just put a aluminum powerglide in her 60 belair in place of the old cast one, every thing is fine but N,D,& L are so close together it jumps from R to L and you have to go back up to find D. this all takes place behind the N indicator on the column, they are that close. is there a spacer to go off the side of the tranz? thers not enough adjustment at the top for that pinch clamp, and that wont change my throw. does any one have a solution for me!? thanks for your time.
Compare the trans shift arms,I'm betting the iron PG is longer C-C . Either lengthen the new one or move the rod hole on the column arm closer to the collum.
Kugel makes a shift arm kit that is adjustable for throw. I have used it several times with great sucess. It it not listed for glides, but you could adapt it with a little effort. The splined drum, and slotted arm arm the key to making it work. I think you could weld the splined drum to the p/g arm.....Make sure you weld it centered on the pivot point. Good luck Dave
The shift patterns are completely different for cast iron vs aluminum Powerglide transmissions. Maybe if you take the "detent" off the column, under the hood, you could at least get all the gears. Does'nt Late Great Chevy or someone make a new shift indicator lense for this? Butch/56sedandelivery.
