hi all, i'm in the process of rounding up parts and i'm getting conflicting info on what will swap directly and what will need to be sourced. it looks like the flex plate, yoke, driveshaft, mounts, coolant lines, and shifter will work. and maybe or maybe not the drive and driven gear for the speedo. but will also need a dust cover, dipstick and fill tube. i'm hoping someone here has done this swap and can fill me in. any and all advice much appreciated.

might help to know what powerglide you are replacing...they made a few different flavors, and things like the length, output shaft splines, etc changed even after the major change from iron to aluminum in 1962-3.

The shifter might or might not work, depends what you have now.

Most of it should work, since you have a late model powerglide, and the shifter is mounted to the floor and uses a rod, right? But you'll probably have to find or make a plate to adapt the linkage to the TH350, which requires a bolt on lever.

jim, yes, it uses a rod. i'm hoping i can find a the lever for the shifter on the transmission locally or just
    fabricate one.

Your powerglide used throttle linkage to control the shift point. The vacuum modulator on a powerglide only controls the operating pressures. The 350's vacuum modulator controls both the shift points and operating pressure, but you will need to connect the cable from the 350 to the throttle to get a kickdown.

  8. I did this same swap on a friend's 64 Impala. It to had a factory floor shifter. With that swap the only changes I had to make were a different length driveshaft yoke, and did away with the power glide downshift linkage. We bought a conversion kit from a company called ShiftWorks. They included everything needed to use the factory power glide floor shifter. Probably the same for yours. Did the whole swap in a weekend.

jaracer, the plan is to skip the kick down linkage on the th350 and just use the shifter.
55, it looks like the PG and the short shaft 350 are the same length and use the same yoke so i should
be ok there and for now i hope to use the stock shifter modified for the additional gear.
did you have any problems adapting the speedo cable from the PG to the th350?

  10. Nope speedo cable was a direct fit. No problem. Swap really woke up the old impala. Should really see a big difference with your Vette.
