Can gm powermaster alternators be clocked? I need the plug to be at 9 oclock. The ones I have seen are at 3 oclock.

If it's a 10-SI or 12-SI alternator design, then you should be able to clock it. Just be careful with the brushes, look for tips on how to keep them in place.

I looked at one at a swap meet, I didn't see any holes in the back to lock the brushes from coming out.

Since the alternator was assembled, it must have a way to keep the brushes in place while assembling it.

Yes, if you're careful slowly prying the 2 case halves apart till they just clear one another, the brushes will stay in place on the rotor. Then turn halves to re-clock. Push/tap them back together. No need to try to lock brushes in their holder beforehand.

Exactly. I did this recently, no problems.

But if you do let a brush pop out, you have to take it apart, and then you put the brushes back in, with a piece of wire to hold them in place. The wire sticks through the hole in the case. Once it's assembled, you remove the wire.
