Well I decided over the Summer that one of our winter projects would be dropping the left over 6-71 Weiand Supercharger from the original Austin build on Dad's 32 Three Window. It is an nice running little 327: Dual Carbs, .30 over, Powerpack heads all hooked to a Glide. Now we are planning to do a few upgrades to the little motor including a good steel crank, appropriate rods, pistons and cam etc. Currently it is a flat tappet but we will go roller this time around. However the question I have is using these heads. I really wanted to have them rebuilt and back on the car but I am worried we are going to have too much compression with them. I have two 327 blocks to choose from both .30 and both in good enough shape for a quick hoane job (no boring needed). But one of them has been decked so it is even worse when figuring compression with these small 60cc chambered Power packs. Any thoughts: dished pistons maybe? Thicker head gaskets? We are not building an all out race motor here, not trying to run a ton a boost through it. Just a nice very "streetable" blower motor. Any thoughts on the compression issue?
I think it's worth spending the money to get the right pistons in a blower motor. I expect they would be dished. You want quench around the edges, and blower motors are hard on head gaskets, so don't try dropping compression by putting a flat top down in the hole, or doubling the head gaskets. I don't know if the right piston is available off the shelf, but you should be able to get a set made for under a grand.
Right. Looking for pistons. Oh Ric!!!! Head gaskets will be Cometic etc. Sent from my SM-G930V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'd be looking for different heads. Get better breathing & bigger valves and increased combustion chambers size to lower compression all in one hit. Seems like wiser money. Go aluminum, fake the ends to look like power pac and have fun.
Sorry, should have said "disguise" like these guys https://www.castheads.com/cylinder-heads/cylinder-head-porting-services/disguise-work/
