What were the options? I see Bruce Lancaster mentions the Fram or other OEM.

    What else was there?

Chrysler used a full flow setup on some '40s - '50s engines & were adapted to hot rod & circle burner engines. AC, Cuno (neat knife-edge type innards with no element), Roll-Pac (sp?) were some of the aftermarket brands available.

The filters before the familiar '48 Ford type fram were disposable oval cans hooked up with flex hoses, now really rare. Lots of aftermarket items, probably most would be problems to find elements for.
