Aighty....this is premature, but it's Tech Week, so I had to post something....

The truck I am building is a '50 Chevy...lets call it a '47, so I can get into the gold-chainer haps....anyway, I am doing this thing hi-boy style, so of course it needs a different front end treatment.

So, my bright idea was to create a grille shell that looks late 30's-ish, but that includes the styling elements I want...including the ability to mount the '48 Ford axle in front of the shell...

Anyway....I started with a 50 Chevy radiator support, turned upside down, created a 1/4" round stock wire form, and have started to fill in the rest with 22ga.

Eventually, there will be 27 grille bars, and my hood ornament will be chromed.

Aren't '47's the earlier body style? I thought the style of the '50 you have began in '48? If it is indeed a '50 chevy truck, a hiboy???? Interesting idea, hope your execution goes well. Got any more pics of the truck itself?

Yep...that would be the spring perch! I call it "Kevorkian" style...

  10. Are you going to narrow the body? They're pretty wide to go fenderless.

Clark....yeah. 3", maybe 4".....gotta get the grille shell done to get the proper perspective.

At this mount, the top is cut (8") but not welded...just sitting there, waiting for me to make up my mind.

I have created a "flat" firewall...or most of it. The firewall is mor or less flat, except that the upper edge follows to tapered cowl line, and is deep enought to allow me to retain the cowl vent.

When I narrow the cab, I'll remove the cowl vent first, and then reinstall it. Same with the dash

The rear of this truck will be suspended by leaf springs, but I am gonna fabricate the frame rails to provide the proper amount of sweep, as well as the provide for an upper link.

The upper link is for axle control, and the associated crossmember adds rigidity to the chassis....

This pic is an example of the frame rails I am building for the '50, although these are on a '98 Dodge Durango.

The next pic shows the laser cut frame rails plates (sides) that I am using for the '50...

This is a poor shot of the frame rail sides I am using on the '50....the idea is to have the outside face of the frame rails be flush with the outside face of the bed side, and the bedside will be profiled, on the bottom edge, to correspond to the sweep of the rails.

And don't worry....the thing will have bias plys and drum brakes. [IMG]

I know it sounds kinda goofy, but it'll work!

The secret is scale...as long as all the parts are of the proper size and oriented correctly...the thing makes sense.

So....it'll have 8.50 x 16's in the rear, 7.00 x 16's in the front, a '48 Ford front axle and 'bones (the '48 is the widest, at 50"...the bed is going to be shortened and narrowed, the cab is already chopped 8", and will ne narrowed 3" or 4"....the firewall is "flat", taking all that funky firewall mass out of the visual equation....

So, yeah....it'll work. And thanks for the kudos

Killer started one a few years ago using(I think( a '50's PU.
    It became known as "Fuguly".
I think he narrowed it more than a foot.
Maybe I can find it in my Top Secret HAMB Archives. [IMG]

If anyone else saved pics of Fuguly, please post away.

I looked through 20 discs full of car pics,
and I can't believe I didn't save any of FUGULY.

    Momentary lapse of reason.
