Until I wore the engine out so bad it wouldn't start preparing the truck for the winter meant checking the antifreeze and pulling the 255 60 15 tires off an putting on a pair of studded snow tires on chrome reverse rims. One night about 25 years ago it was so frigging cold that I filled the tank before I got home and actually let the truck idle all night long outside so I could go to work the next morning. I lived 7 tenths of a mile off the road so I could do that plus I had a clear field of fire from the bedroom windows and who the hell is going to walk that far to steal an old truck in 20 below weather. When it is all you own you drive it.

Pulled into the trailer. Shut the doors and locked them, backed it into the turnaround. Boom. Done.

I just filled up with that high priced "Winter Formula " gas that all of the refiners are charging so much for What a scam.

Checked the anti-freeze, added gas and Stabil and drove for a while on a bright sunny Fall day. The foliage in Kentucky right now is at its peak. Was cool enough to turn on the heater.

I have 4 chrome rims with tires, not the greatest but not toast, and nowhere inside to store them this winter. Wondering what would be best to coat them with. Wax, oil? Was even thinking about some cheap paint that will come off with thinner.

What a beautiful area of countryside you live in.
If they are just setting outside, a good heavy oil will protect them.
If your driving with them, you could try that plasticized paint that pulls off.
