Prepping an alum rad for paint qun....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rat bastad, May 26, 2011.

  1. Hey guys,

I want to paint the tanks/frame flat black and the core will get a super lite dust coat of flat black as well.

What do you guys use to prep aluminium/rad for paint?

Degrease and 1 thin coat of epoxy primer, then your choice of top colour, Done all mine that way and it lasts.

Not to hijack but will painting an alminum radiator affect it's cooling ability?

  8. yes, talk to any radiator shop...they use a special thin paint....

  9. Not if its a light coat...

I use alumaprep and semiflat black krylon. Last one I painted is still going strong 8 years later.

Not noticed any difference but keep the coats thin and light obviously.
