Anyone know the name Cliff Zink? Top Fuel pilot from early 60's or have a photo of a Top Fuel car called "De Judge"?
My typo error, not a failing of recollection, at least in terms of reciting the mans name correctly. And yes, the Coleman and Crietz car was destroyed, at Tulsa I think. But it had been explained to me that the cowling was the only body part installed, while the tail and nose were in the trailer.
Here's one that I don't think has been posted yet. "The Glass Slipper", featured in Hot Rod, back in the mid to late fifties, I think. It was seen as one of the first to combine aerodynamics and beauty.
They don't make dragstrips like that any more, thats to bad That was upclose and personal ,I loved Lions There is an old strip out here in Oregon in woodburn that is close to Lions and still fun
Got to ride back to the starting line in the Slipper, June 5, 1959 at the old Medford, Ore. drag strip. (Agate Road). Been a car nut ever since!
This beauty was at the Gopher State Timing Assn. show last weekend. It is owned by Chuck Datko. 1965 vintage.
I didn't see any reference to who did the outstanding body on this digger. Thought I post this and see if anyone has more historical information.
Found this shot while uploading. It's from the New York coliseum show back in the late 60's or early 70's ....Rich
Finally, something I can contribute to ! This was at Cruisin' Grand in Escondido, CA about 5 or so years ago....I got about 40 more, these are just some random shots...
The "Glass Slipper" used to belong to Ed Cortopassi, I saw it for the first time in'59 0r '60. It was running at the old Agate Road drag strip (almost a drag strip) in Medford ore. (actualy Camp White) Made a firm believer of everything hot rod outa me! Crow.
[/IMG] Pretty? Maybe not, but definitely pretty bad looking (and performing). And the Greek's still doing 46 years later!! Trivia: That's Rod Stuckey's '56 Ford Wagon pushcar.
does anybody have any pics, my dad Dick Vowell and his brother Paul Vowell had 3 top fuel dragsters in the 60,s big red, outcast two and short shot they were based out of arizone mel larsons and beeline dragways were their choice.they were one of the first to break 200 mph and for doing that was in the mickey thompson 200 mph club, dont seem like much today but it was a big deal then, anyway all pics of those cars were ruined in a flood i have none ,think of those odds a flood in phoenix, anyway if anyone could help me out, in my next life ill name my kids after you, thanks very much
What magazine and issue are the images in post 01-03-2009, 10:33 PM from? I've been looking for this issue for years. I bought this magazine on the way to Boy Scout camp and became hooked on race cars. I would like to purchase this magazine again. Thanks, Phil
