I'm thinking you're not going to get a straight answer to this, if only because of all the variables that have to be taken into consideration.

i know i just want to know a fair price i feel im getting low balled on things and want to know whats fair to me and the customer i only charge $50 an hr and for just the frame part after dismantling takes me like 15 hrs but its the install of fenders radiator steering things like that that start getting pricy i just want to be fair

  4. If you are getting 50 bucks an hr then you are getting more than a shop. most shops around here are at 43 hr. Most guys i know get around 2g for an install start to finish.

you forget that the cost of living is more expensive on the west and east coast. i dont know why? with it being so close to big ports you think we would get stuff cheaper! yea no. we pay a full dollar more for gas then the middle of the country. wtf? yea it boggles the mind.

If that is right at the going shop rate for your local area I'd say you are in the ball park as long as you are able to make a decent wage/profit at that rate.

I'd say that a guys overhead expenses have more to do with what he has to charge than anything else and locality has a lot to do with that.
Cost of the building you are working in being a major one along with electricity and other utility expenses.

Your profit margin at 50.00 or Rodhotz's at 43.00 may actually be better than someone in a different are who is charging 65 or 85 but is getting eaten up by expenses. It isn't always how much you charge an hour but how much you end up with after it is all said and done for that hour's work and billing.

ya actually here in town the only thing i have to compare to is a machine shop custom work should be more than a mechanic shop cause theres no manual on how to customize you can do the same job countless different ways the machine/welding shops around here are 90 dollars per man hour i used to be 75 an hour but in this day i lowered it to $50 to help out everyone
