yep, which is why its time to start exploring other options. pure electric is not dependable or fast, hybrid is getting there but still relies on fossil fuel. how about biodiesel? there was an article in the la weekly a couple weeks back on a chick that converts old seventies boats to biodiesel and has started producing the stuff. you hear me? FUEL YOU CAN MAKE YOURSELF AT HOME. not to mention soy and hemp based fuels that are completely renewable resources (not to mention the fact that hemp and soy are good for 1000 other things, not the least of which is cheap nutritious food for poor countries). anyway, i have gone off on a tangent, but this is a real situation, and no, i am not a hippie radical, i am a rodder just like you. im just looking into the future. its not 1955 anymore, boys.

Cob I don't doubt the validity of any of your statements at all. I am not one of those short sighted fools who doesn't give a thought to where it all comes from or how much could possibly be left. I do believe our sources are dwindling and they may even be at the pace you have stated. I'm not an expert in that field.

I will however say that even with that knowledge that doesn't back up the supply and demand theory for rising costs of oil products. A possible future end date of 65 years doesn't translate into rising costs now, especially backed up with record setting profits. It does however make a very strong point for the idea of taking oil out of the free market and regulating it.

The oil industry has known all about the reserves and time line for the depletion of it for many years now, so that doesn't explain the drastic rise in the price of gasoline over the last year. Shell has been trying to shut down the refinery here in Bakersfield saying that it isn't economical to operate it anymore as they have slowed production there so much. That is market manipulation. Demand is high so keep supply low.

Yes, you can produce it yourself. I've been helping my brother-in-law work out some of the technical problems with the batch brewer he has going in his barn. He is going to make bio-diesel for his diesel Suburban, Dodge truck and Blazer from waste vegtable oil he gets from restaurants. The stuff works. He and a couple of partners are working on scaling it up for commercial production. The one catch: You have to have a DIESEL engine, i.e. compression ignition engine. It is diesel not gasoline so it won't run in 99.999% of hot rods. Just go find a good 5-cylinder Mercedes Benz diesel engine to put in your RPU, change out the fuel tank, fuel lines, pumps, filters, and exhaust system. Oh, yes, find space for another battery so you can have enough cranking power for the engine. That might work. In 40 years of hot rodding, I have NEVER seen a diesel powered hot rod. Except at Bonneville since they added the diesel cl***es.

Not to worry wages won't go up, that would be inflationary and we can't have that now.

I remember 74 very well. I also remember what I heard a few years ago from a friend that fly’s. In 74 the oil tankers were all lined up out side the 12 mile limit waiting for the price to go up. It was ****in ******** then and it’s no doubt ******** now.

not to change the subject or anything, but last week I went to the SEVA, which is a club that makes all electric cars. they had some pretty interesting stuff going on. Problem is that they are all science kinda guys and there aren't any guys like us screwin with this. Ive seen the amazing things that get built by HAMBers and I think that we could build electric cars better than the earth ****s. You'll have to ut up with hippies and science ****s, but its worth the h***le. Lookin into it myself. Battery technology has come a long way, and neccesity is the mother of all creation(and not wantin to spend $3 at the pump) Its ****y, less fun, and expensive to start, but I personally want to be able to at least drive my old car on the weekends. I don't have the money to really get into it, maybe someone does. Waitin for cold fusion aint doin any good

We have been producing this for about 3 years now (a business partner)
For the most part it has been very profitable until the word got out about the byproducts from the resturaunts, so now instead of them paying us to take it, we pay them so everyone is getting there hand in it.
I can't go into detail on some additional applications due a patent and patent pending details but the future looks promising.
Sounds like were in the same game AZAV8.
Fortunatley our one patent has been approved.
European truck companies want our information. ( Volvo)

Just a few comments...Three years ago China was an oil exporter...now they are an importer...they now compete with the rest of the world for crude for oil raising the prices WE pay for crude. They are becoming one of the world's largest consumers of oil while just a few years ago their domestic production took care of all of their needs. Everytime someone buys a Chinese made product they contribute to this problem.

India is also importing way more oil than just a few years ago.

Inflation IS rearing it's ugly head...and it's something most people under 40 haven't seen much of....

The $200.00 price increase of that crate motor is comprised of inflation AND a fuel surcharge...not just the fuel surchrage.

I put $800.00 worth of diesel in my Peterbilt in the last two days....

I gotta agree with **** on the issue. Im a hotrodder and a soldier. I think the bottom line is we know (our leadership) and some of the most influential oil folks in the biz, know that the national profit on releasing our stratigic reserves in a time of oil panic (and it hasnt hit yet) would rocket our economy once again to record heights. To have awarded (in this last year) Halliburton an 80 Billion dollar contract to secure, update and regulate the two major oil reserves in Iraq would put us incontol of what the rest of the OPEC nations dont want, Its about control, not just nukes, but control of the two of the largest oil deposits in the middle east, and our untapped stratigic reserves. Yeah, as OPEC gets more and more pissed and uncertain about future relations between the USA/GB/AUS the Kiwis...and the Arab world, prices will continue to rise. We have a new king in Saudi, oil prices hit a record high when the King Fahad died a few weeks back. True, were running out of oil, but we know that reliance on forign oil is a major weakness, I think the administration is trying to change this, its gonna be painful, More American soldiers are going to die, it ****s, but our entire economy rotates around the oil, and thats why were there, we cant afford to let a radical Islamic regime to contol that oil. I spent 14 months in Baghdad, we (the average soldier) understands its about oil, not "libertaing the poor Iraqi people" (****, I was there when Baghdad fell, we were amazed how nice it was, and how well the people were actually doing under Saddam) ****in propaganda. Anyway, Its about the future, security of our national intersts, were making a stand and ******* OPEC off in the process, Prices will continue to rise because of this. Were just feeling the "waves", I love my car, knowing I can hop into it, go grab a burger, burn out, and just enjoy the ride. To me that worth fighting for, Thats my America. Hang in there guys, things will cool out someday. ...But one thing really pisses me off...The price of fuel here on a US military base is $2.48 for the cheap ****....10 cents more expensive than right off base.. WTF???

I was thinking after the last gas post how weird it was that you all in the USA were making much more noise then the rest of us, I figured it must be hurting you more then the rest of us as the us$ is so low at the moment, we are sitting at a pretty steady 68-70 cent us to our $1 at the moment when most of us here think in the ).50's/$1 wher we normally sit...... The other thaught was **** with oil at that much per barrel our dollar better not head back into that range or we will be making noise.

  20. EXACTLY! Maybe CornCob can explain this? Maye the oil executives just got their hands on the information about us being on the "back side" of the oil supply? Or maybe they're just jacking up the prices for no reason other than their own greed. Now, if you'll excuse me, I HAVE to drive to work after I stop at Starbuck's for the iced coffee that I WANT. ;)
