Thanks for sharing. When this post becomes OT here it'll be the last day "petejoe" signs on.

I'm too young to remember any of these cars actually running, but the pictures alone convey a sense of history, importance and pride beyond words. Thank you for sharing the pictures with us - I would love to have the honor of visiting a collection such as that some day.

Even though some of this collection has moved out of these buildings and onto public display, thanks again for posting this originally and giving us a glimpse into the barns. It's truly wonderful.

  15. I find it interesting that there are two men named SMITH with huge oval track collections that seem to be very different in their approach to sharing them with the public.

  16. Revisiting this post today I noticed one of the pictures was of Roger McCluskey's #8.I believe this car was at Auburn Indiana a year or so ago but I don't think it was for sale.I remember admiring the striping on the car.

Had the opportunity to view this collection as part of the 7th annual Blanket Run on 12/05/09. Amazing collection and Mr. Smith could not have been more kind.

  19. Excuse me while I have a cargasm...

Utterly speechless here;what an amazing collection. If the walls could talk...
I spent many a Memorial weekend listening to(after much hunting for) the radio broadcast of The 500;I'm sure I heard many of the driver's and car's names called out way back when. THANK YOU for the pics!

Damn I dont think I will ever get to see this collection. I never hear about it untill its over.:mad::mad:

  21. As Roy said earlier, Don Smith is one heck of a guy. I have been through his place several times. He opens it to the public 3-4 times a year. He normally does it for fundraising. He is a big sponsor of the Susan Komen survival group. Don is having a re-productin of the Sumar Streamliner built to add to this collection. He also has a roadster midget being built with the Sumar colors. This guy is a real racer, not a poser. He has been there and done that and can tell you stories about some of the best in the business from the old days.
I'm not sure but I think I was there the day these photos were taken. I remember the snow on the ground. Seems to me it was the Buckeye group from Ohio???

Glad to see this back on top for the new HAMB members. Is this the collection that has the great Murals on the outside of the barn doors? I looked but did't see any outside shots. Lots of great cars there being well cared for.
