I am collecting parts for my upcoming gasser project ('57 Ford) and scored a set 15x10 aluminum five slots with N50-15 Pro-Tracs on 'em. What year did Pro-Tracs first come out? I am shooting for a build year about 1969 so I was wondering if they were available then?

That might be close.......I recall seeing them around 1975 for the first time....but they certainly could have been around earlier....

I'm not sure what year Pro-Tracs came out, but I am quite sure that size wasn't available. I don't think that there was barely 60 series in 1969 let alone 50 series. What you need is some Inglewood Positraction tires or Goodyear Bluestreaks.

I think Pro Tracs came on the scene around '73 or '74. 1969 was all about Polyglas GT's and Firestone Wide Ovals in 70 series. The "cool" guys were buying Indy hot lap tires like Goodyear Blue Streaks for the back and running VW tires up front.

I think I'd be more concerned about the year of their LAST appearance...as in just how old they are!
The though of using an old W-i-d-e tire scares me more than using an old narrow tire for some reason. I'm thinking that the carcass will have to deal with tire pressure over a larger, flexible and thus potentially weaker surface.
NO engineering degree or experience to back that up...just a gut feeling.
Hey...Cars haven't killed me yet so I guess those gut feelings have served me well....:)

N50s weren't out till in the '70s, maybe 73-74, and they were those funny rounded Goodyears. For '69 L-60 is about the biggest you can go.

I bought a set of N50-15 Pos-i-tracs for my 37 chevy, had to be about 77, they were "the" tire at the time, 50 series were pretty new thing at the time. I remember cutting my fenders with an air chisel to get them on then cutting up my new tires on the raw edge that night. Stuck out about 3-4 inches a side, cool at the time!

My coupe got L60-15 tires in about '72 or '73. The car was running in late '73. I think they may have been Pro-Tracs (damn, it has been a long time). Pretty sure the N50 size wasn't available until the mid 70s.

heh. You guys are aware that they are making these again, right?

I think it may be coker, but they are avalible in Jegs.

I also saw hijacker shocks (complete with the "shock extender" bracket thingy)
and what I thought were n.o.s. shackle extenders turned out to be about 6 weeks old.

the resurgence of the van craze is upon us.

    rad.:D
