Her is some pics of what we think is Swedens first HotRod built in the late 20s or early 30s. Now restored to its original hotrod suit it ran 85-90mph something when they raced with the car in the late 30s.
Pulle, Thank you for posting the photos! Very nice looking car. That is a 16 valve Laurel Type B overhead conversion, looks like it has a Miller carb. Wheels are 1926-27 Ford, rear has a Ruxtell two speed.
Very cool! A question for you though. I recall seeing articles about Swedish rods as far back as I can remember being into cars and drag racing (almost 50 years). I'm curious why (American style) hot rodding caught on over there so long ago - and with such a large following? Also, the Swedish rodders seem to have had the "right stuff" all along (as far as style and hardware), rather than patching together the rather awkward looking rigs that seemed to typify European "rods" for so many years. The Brits have been doing hi-performance cars forever, but it seems like you Swedes even beat them in adopting the U.S. style rods - and drag racing too. Same with the French. Yankee hot rodding seems to just be catching on there in the last decade or so, and even so, they seem to be into it more for the '50s-era "greaser" thing as much (or more) as for the cars themselves. I'm sure I've stepped on some "euro-toes" here, but I'd be interested in your insights.
