It's hard to trouble shoot transmission problems because it could be many things from a sticking valve in the valve body to a band adjustment or bad clutch, a**** others. Sorry I can't be more specific...

Have you checked you linkage to make sure nothing is binding up ? Is the module working ? I am just guessing here because I am not a auto trans guy . I only rebuilt standard trans before . I am going to try my hand at a C4 this winter I hope .

it might be a broke reverse band . i had a freind with a 67 mustang . it broke a reverse band . was fixed without pulling the trans . but i figure he was lucky. if it was me it woulnt have been that easy

Old Lady, If the reverse band was broken then he wouldn't have low either (Actually it is referred to the low/reverse band). That's why I said it is difficult to pinpoint a problem.
It could be as simple as low fluid level or band adjustment.

Retro Jim, The C-4 is an easy trans to rebuild and a good one to start on. May I suggest getting a "Ford C-5 TechTran Manual" from ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group. The manual covers everything from adjusting the bands and diagnosing to rebuilding and torque specs.
