Regardless of what speed I'm going speedo. only shows 22 MPH max. Rear end is a 3:55 8" with a 4 speed top loader. The top loader has the internal "pink" speedo. gear and the the speedo. driven gear is a 21 tooth. Anybody have an idea what's going on here?

    Your speedometer is broken.

I have one of those, too. Mine says 40 MPH at a stop and will top out a 75 MPH. But I'm only going 55 MPH. The matching tach would read 9000 RPM at the same speed. Then it broke.
I don't think they are very good.

The speedo. is new but I think everyone's right, the gauge is junk from the beginning. See what I can find for a replacement.

I have a set of the SW wings instruments as well. The speedo reads all over, and the tach is all over as well, when it works. another known good tach does work when wired in its place.
I love the look and history of SW, but I think the quality is*****.

Sounds like you speedo is mechanical from your gearing description but I thought I would add my experience with SW Winged gauges for others that find this thread.

I have SW winged electrics. Both speedo and tach were all over the place from the start. Then I noticed that my garage door opener wouldn’t function when the car was idling in the driveway.
Turned out that the solid core race wires I put on my flatty were emitting very large amounts of RFI ( radio frequency interference) which affects onboard electronics…and my garage door opener.
Swapped them out for spiral core wires and the gauges were instantly fixed…and so was the garage door opener!

Mine is a SW electric speedometer and although it works as it should it has a very annoying click at every tenth of a mile,,I am considering replacing it with a mechanical speedometer and take my chances with accuracy. HRP

It's a mechanical . I see SW offers another mechanical speedo. that's more expensive and looks somewhat like my existing gauges; wonder if I would be making the same mistake buying anything in the SW line. Little off topic, but when I go to Traditional Hot Rods it shows my post as N/A and it doesn't record everyones response in replies but when I click it on I can see everyone responses.

It looks like your thread has been redirected to the main board "General Discussion" . The link exists in the "Traditional forum" but when you click on it, you are taken to the re-direct in Gen. Discussion.

It was redirected by the forum moderators...apparently, they didn't think it belonged in the "traditional forum" where you originally posted it. It's more of a general forum topic
