Hi guys hopefully someone can help or at least point me in the right direction.
when my engine gets warm and i shut it off for a couple of minutes and go to start it again it's as if it's flooded? when it cold and i start it and shut it off it restarts fine, it's only after it reachs running temp i have this problem. also, i noticed that if i lightly pump the gas while it's running and warm it does flood out. Could it be the float is to high? <!--POLLS--><!--FILES--><!--SIGNATURE-->

too much fuel pressure maybe, which then gets past the needle and seat. i had a carter 600 bleed off pressure after i shut it off, and it filled the p***enger cylinders with fuel. had to pull the plugs, blow it out, and drive straight home.

It could be flooding or percolating when it's parked hot.

But is it actually flooding or is the accelerator pump not working correctly. You say it floods out when you lightly hit the accelerator. Could it be that the pump isn't working right and it isn't getting a pump shot and is leaning out instead? Sometimes what you think a carb or engine is doing isn't exactly what it is doing.

53Sled was typing the same time I was and may have hit the nail straight on the head. How much fuel pressure are you running?

I'd still check the float level, accelerator pump action and make sure that you have the correct gasket on if the carb needs to be insulated from the manifold more.

If its a quadrajet I have seen them act like that if the float is bad.

Need more info to help troubleshoot, what carb, fuel pressure, initial timing, total timing, correct plugs, etc?
Try a carb spacer to help avoid perculation.

thanks guys for the info. I have installed a 1" spcer thinking that was the problem. No change. It's a new edelbrock 4barrel carb running off of a new factory fuel pump. I have checked the timing which is at 8 degrees @500 rpm with vacuum advance disconnected. plugs are new as well RT45 AC delco. I'm leaning toiward either the fuel pump has to high pressure or possibly the float level maybe to high or even a bogus needle seat and valve. Mr 48chev, it floods out when i pump the accelerator lightly when the engine is warm and idling. It also stumbles a bit in gear when it's warm and i accelerate

Welcome to the world of the AFB carb. Everyone that I have had for some reason does different wierd stuff. Like bleed off fuel so that you have to crank and crank to pump the bowl full again so it'll start. There is a lot of info though on the net that is helpfull in tuning them up for your motor. spend a few hours with it and you might be suprized how much better your car will run. that off idle thing is not usually flooding either. I belive it has to do with the transfer slot in the throttle bores. but I am not an expert with these so I cant go into full detail.
