History Production Start Date 1951 Chevrolet 3100 pickups?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jon W. Lundberg Sr., Jul 6, 2018.

  1. In the process of valuing a 1951 Chevrolet 3100 pickup that seems to be a "cross-over" item. Can you help me know the production start-up date for 1951 Chevy pickups? Thank you.

Production was not as set in stone back then as it is today. My son has a 49 3100 pickup that has tube shocks on the front axle. Every thing I have ever read on the Advanced Series trucks say that 50 was the first year for tube shocks. Yet this one has them. My theory is that when the assembly line ran out of the previous years parts, they just switched to the updated design, regardless of what year they were going to title it as. If your truck has various year components, and they look original, it is probably a late 50 or early 51 build truck.

I spoke with a Chevrolet Engineer many years ago. He said " You have to remember, we were building vehicles , not historical artifacts".
