Professional shops to avoid in CA??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Flynn's_57, Apr 25, 2007.

  1. I have a friend in Noethern Cal. who went through a bit more than that and lost a lot of money in the process. This was about five or six years ago, and it still is not finished, but almost. It pays to check better buisiness first and ask around. Sorry for your bad luck, better luck next time. Rags

I do work for folks time and time again.

I make it a rule of thumb to the "customer" to see either on paper, or themselves the progress of the work and "Actual" hours spent on thier cars. I think it gives a sense of comfort to the owners, and shows them im not trying to squeegee thier wallet for tons of money.

As for parts, I charge only what Im charged which I get mostly at a good discounted rate. Its mostly labor that they get billed.

Yes, some things/repairs take longer than others; but i try to explain that in as much detail as possible before each task, keeping them informed; with pictures/emails or phone calls. No extra work to be done (ie: automatically replacing an inner panel behind the panel your replacing is rusty) without thier consent.

I only work on (1) thing at a time; i dont consider myself a "professional shop", just a place to provide a service to those who need things done; at an affortable price. Yep, I have no overhead and that makes a difference. You will be suprised on how many folks turn me down because of that; like im some kind of hacker or midnight tweeker at home, still go to the "local professionals" drop a bag of money to get pure unhappiness. For me, in the long run, making tons of money at someone elses expense is not what im after. Only to make a few $$$ to get my cars up and nice. Maybe that's where I differ from the rest.

So far, its been sucessful w/ happy folks; I hope to keep it that way. :)

I want to make it clear that I wasn't agreeing Roseville was a ripoff joint in my earlier post, maybe they are, maybe they aren't, I don't know either party and there's alway's 2 sides of a story.
