I pulled it apart awhile back for paint and chrome. Now i am trying to get it back together again so i can drive it this summer. The plan was to get the ch***ie all finished and leave the body in primer and do as little as possible with the interier so i can drive it this summer. After reading Ryans post about finish or not i started to picture the rod i always wanted to have in my mind.
Being my first build and first hot rod ever (havn´t even driven one before or been in one) i thought i might try it out thirst.
So with out further delay, some pics.

The pedals still have to be painted yet.

Good looking build. I dig the low down unchopped look. Are your brake lines copper??? Or are my eyes playing with me???

If the brake lines are copper, get some steel lines and start over. Otherwise it looks like a great first build.

I admit it -- I'm a rookie at this. Why is copper a problem?

it'll crack under certain conditions and tend to swell more than steel under the high pressures in a hydraulic system.

Is it a copper coating or all the way through?? (check a freshly cut end)

Yes it is copper brake lines. People around here told me it would be alright. Might have to look over it again.

    ...looks so cool, nick!

I can't see why it should be a problem. Sure, steel lines look neater but I have never ever heard of anyone having any problems with copper brake lines.

Ive heard of them cracking also. Never had them on a vehicle since the steel ones come in different lengths already flared for ya and are so easy to use.......... so no personal experience.

Course, I wouldnt..... not listen to advice, when its a cheap and easy replace and your life kinda depends on it being able to stop and all. But thats just me.

I think you'll find the burst presure of copper is WAY below what your brake system is subjected to during a panic stop. That and the fact it's ILLEGAL to use copper.

The Guy's are right, go to the auto parts and buy some steel. Use the copper lines for a pattern. Car looks Great!

    nice lookin car...

copper brake lines arent illegal over here (UK), its pretty common in fact - probably the same in sweden. if they are clipped in properly they wont move and they wont crack/break.

Let me tell ya about the time I bought a 65 Mustang and the guy had replaced a brake line with copper. It did'nt run so the guys said "git in, we'll push ya down da hill and on the trailer" I tested the brakes, and said lets go. Hit the trailer goin way too fast, Jumped on the pedal, The copper line blew out, and I went off the front of the trailer and drove the tailgate of my dads truck clean into the box. Cost me more to fix his truck then that Mustang was worth. Coupes lookin way cool.

  25. Well well! In Denmark (That's where I'm from) when you drive an older car through inspection and DON'T have copper lines there's no chance of getting your ride through inspection.

I have copper on my Chevy and I've drove it for 11 years without ANY brakeline problems. - Maybe I was just lucky!

...or maybe there are different grades of copper lines. Actually, the automotive stores here hardly sell anything but copper lines, and the auto inspection over here is r-i-g-i-d on safety.

Neat, wouldve never thought that......... do you guys have indoor plumbing yet? :D:D:D

Just messing with you. Id like to know the real info and reasoning Sweeden and Denmark would do that. Especially since I have no real information to supply pro or con copper lines, other than what I have read when I was plumbing my brakes.

Talked to alot of people around here about the brake lines being in copper and they all said it will be fine with them. I decided on using them for now and put steel one´s on next winter.
Done alot this weekend, got alot of electrical stuff done and alot of other small jobs done. Still about a million to go:) :)
But i am quite determent to test drive it next weekend.:)

I'm sorry but copper tubing is absolutely unacceptable as a brake line, and only marginally acceptable as a fuel lines or transmission fluid circulation lines. It is just too susceptible to cracking whether from vibration or pressure.

Those that have used them on brakes without problems are either dead, grievously injured or damned lucky.
