We Finally got the metal work all done on the rear firewall this evening! Some strips of foam around the edges should seal everything up and keep squeaks/rattles away. Also need to file/grind the edges for the roll bar holes and gasket them too..We used nutserts for 10-24 stainless allen head button screws for all of it so it all unbolts for painting and tank maintenence... It'll be tight as a tick when all sealed up.
Next up....finish the trunk latch panel under the decklid.

fab'd top caps for the interior pieces and will use rubber to make a seal between the pieces and the inner top skin. I know, it's prolly tedious to read this little detail shit but it all needs to be done.

Stayed home and worked in my home garage on the Pontiac engine/trans.
In fact, I worked most of the afternoon and into the night on alternator brackets, using a mid 90s chevy pickup 105 amp alternator on the 57 POntiac engine. I made up the brackets from tubing taken from an old 40 Buick column shifter tube and a roundy-round racer gusset.
The adjuster bracket is a 59 Pontiac 389 generator bracket and I welded a reinforcement into it to keep it from cracking from vibration.
Yeah, yeah, I know...real hotrods run generators but I'm trying to make up a charging system that will transfer over to my dual quad setup when I install it...after I break-in the motor and get the bugs worked out. The little short alternator clears the front carb where a generator probably wouldn't.

Got a little more done Friday night. Boxed in the trunk latch striker mount. Needs detailed out. I used the original 34 decklid latch and a curved 37 ford trunk handle..Drilled holes for trunk water drains and cut down some 3/8ths brake line for drain pipes out the bottom of the body.

Tuesday.....we installed the trunk striker and I installed the 37 decklid handle--filed a notch in it's mounting hole to engage the lock tab and mounted it all with a thick rubber gasket. It works fine. ..locks up just like a new car! The striker mount isn't welded to the back panel because I wanted the latch panel to be removable. It unbolts and comes out so I can paint and clean under it.
We removed the package tray tin to get the roll bar out and welded mounting feet on it after shortening it 3/16ths inch to account for the 3/16ths feet. Put it back in and I'll buy some square nuts to weld to plates that'll go inside the top rail of the frame for mounts before we box the frame. Also, we need to do a little rear frame rail work to accommodate the new rear crossmember. The old one won't clear the quick change axle. I really like how the roll bar is removable....FUN! I really enjoy hammerin on this coupe a few nights a week. Won't know how to act when it's done.

yeah, but the 36 pickup is all loaded up to go to the Sunday swap meet and the 57 Lloyd Alexander will be on the HAMB classifieds as soon as I get time to clean and photo it for an ad...the 80 chevelle wagon is all cleaned up with for sale signs in the windows and it's going to the Wed. night cruise in a few hours. Gotta get some 34 coupe money!

    Dan....
The roll cage tilts forward into the passenger compartment [even with the gas tank in place] and comes out through the door opening. No need to remove doors. We planned it out to make this car as easy to work on as possible. It's tight with the feet welded on the 'cage but it comes out and goes in pretty easy.

Replaced the "tulip panel" behind the top this evening. I didn't think it was so bad until after Jimmy cut it out and I saw the rust damage underneath. Jimmy broke a piece of 20 gauge and ran it through the shrinker/stretcher to give it a curve. Cut the old piece out, repaired the reinforcement piece on the passenger side and began burning the new piece in. Will finish the installation next week.
