Trent..I'll see if I have any in my stash...cut panhard brackets to go on my right side split bone. I cut them out of an old Speedway Vega steering box mount. Took forever with my zippy wheel. Redrilled the holes to 1/2".
Took the 3m disc to the mount on the other end of the bar and drilled a racing hole in it. Maybe it'll whistle when I get over 60 MPH. eh?

Had to re-engineer the frame bracket for the panhard bar [to clear the tie rod on hard left turns] and got it welded in place....will weld the wishbone brackets this weekend. Bought a cheap $5 solid state tach at last Sunday's swap meet and this evening I swapped the solid state stuff into my old Stewart Warner tach....the S.W. tach was missing the original sender switch [went between the dist cap and the dist. body...impossible to find] and missing the original wiring harness....the updated S.W. works great! swtachback.jpg SWtachfront.jpg

Ah ****! Oh well....I didn't destroy anything that can't be put back together but...I'll bet that switch wouldn't fit on my old Mallory distributor anyway... It's ok, I didn't want that ultra-long, 2 piece tach hanging on my steering column. I'm happier with my finished product. [I think] Everything I read about this tach said those parts were impossible to find and yet there they are..
    Thanks, Mark.

Got tired of seeing the new tach sitting around and made a mount for it. Used a chunk of 1.5" I.D. pipe and hacked up an old column shifter from my old '49 Willys wagon. Thinking of possibly welding the mount to the column for a more sanitary look...we'll see

Before I take the body off the frame to do final welding on ch***is stuff, I'm going to completely wire the car before painting anything. This way I don't have to drill any holes or weld any wiring brackets to the new painted surfaces. A long time ago I bought an E-Z 21 circuit harness. In the past I've always either used a 70s GM harness [usually nova] or scratch wired my cars. I'm laying the E-Z wiring harness out to see how long the wires are and how they're bundled. First plan was to put the fuse panel in the trunk with the battery but all the wiring for the engine and cab were too short for that and I didn't want to splice wiring so I made a decision to place the fuse panel on a dandy louvered aluminum plate that will swing up and down to gain access to it. The plate has enough room for my breakers and relays for my fuel pump and one for headlights. I really enjoy wiring...love the "thinking" part of it.
Some guys like to work cross word puzzles, I like doing automotive wiring. When I get it all done, it'll come back out and be stored away 'till I paint the ch***is and body. I suppose I MAY have to blast the car a round the block first. 34wiringbench.JPG

Be sure to have mrs rocky take a video of you taking the blast around the block in May! That is what you said right? ;)

Might have to ship you north, my dad just bought himself a slick 68 Lincoln continental coupe that he's turning into a mild/bellflower custom and the wiring either needs a keen eye or re doing it all may be quicker. Either way he's pretty intimidated by it. I'd bring the car to you but I think your entire garage would fit in its trunk lol

Haha I can understand that. I think we are going to have Ron Francis send us a bundle and just gut the car. By the time we trouble shoot and figure out what the hell the previous owner was thinking I could have just renwired the dang thing completely lol.

Keep on truckin and I'll see you this summer :)

  16. @Rocky When you bought that '65 Chevy and made sure that I owned it I still liked you. Not so sure any more. :D :D

The old coupe is making progress in a good way. I am really happy to see it.

By the way that is a real Oregon looking tach mount.

Still working on getting all my wiring stuff in place. This weekend I decided to mount my fuse panel to an old louvered cover I scrounged out of the dumpster at work. I grabbed about 4 of these babys. I welded some gussets to the inside of my firewall and made up some bracketry to act as hinges so my panel will swing down for service and tuck up away for use. I even drilled a hole for a lock. I'm going to mount some breakers and a few relays to the panel also...up on top where they'll be out of site.
I picked the p***enger side of the car to mount this thing because I hate dodging around the steering column to work on my fuse panel.
I used stainless 5/16ths bolts and nuts for panel hinge pins...got 'em out of the same dumpster as the louvered panels. It's amazing at the good stuff people throw away!

looking at the dash, you can't see the louvered door hanging down...you can just make out the head of the key sticking down under the p***enger side of the dash. The key will be on the key ring.
    34fuse6.jpg .
It even clears my cowl vent but I've noticed the cowl vent handle contacts my instruments...gotta do some modifications to fix that.

I dunno, Jeff. The entire car still has to come apart for finish welding and some kinda paint before it's driveable...I don't really see it ready to cruise this year.
But that's ok! I REALLY like building as well as driving..

Looking better every time I check it out,I really like the dumpster louvered panel.the swing now idea should make it easy should you ever need to do a roadside repair. HRP

  26. LOL Louvers make anything cool whether that actually do anything or not. ;)

I hope he is ready for the drags. @Rocky if you are getting close I am not at all opposed to couch surfing for a week, if your missus don't mind. I am not an expert but I can do grunt work. ;)

Wiring....it pained me to cut holes in my car for tailights. These are left over from my old 40 chevy coupe project. I have to cut a portion of the inner panel out for clearance...
I love 40 chevy lights! I'll prolly be running stock 40 lenses...I have 8 of them!

Got both tail lights in. I really didn't plan to do so much t******* to the inner panel. I'm not gonna show it 'til I get it all dressed and smoothed. Here are the lights. 34tailties40chev.jpg

Cool man, with them inboard like that it makes those back tires look even bigger. Very cool! I'm going to try to stop in the middle of June to have a look
