I finally got a weekend to do some work on the new project.I've been doing some research/inquiries on exactly what I have here.It is a 37 Plymouth deluxe coupe.Serial number confirms it as a 37 but this one is a Canadian built Plymouth, built in Windsor Ontario. As I've tinkered a few things I've found, someone at one time has been playing around with it maybe trying to get it running. It has a like new dist cap, rotor, condensor in it.I found the original starter in the trunk and after some cleaning tinkering I have it working on the bench.I had originally bought this to buils a hot rod out of it but now I am really thinking about trying to get the original motor back up and running.I started taking the body apart this weekend and no major surprises,a bit of rot that I expected, but not too bad for 1937.Funny thing is there are only 16800 miles showing.I can't even imagine that there could have been more than one or two major roads in thses parts back then.Mostly wagon trails and fiels as evidence by a few big dings in crossmembers and the driveshaft hoop underneath.Hopefully in the next few weeks i'll have it down to the frame as well as a chance to talk to the last owner to see if ican get abit more history on the car. Then to decide hot rod, resto, resto rod?

  2. You've found a really nice car! I'm driving my own -37 business coupe in original condition exept from "big-n-small" rubber on the 16" wheels. This summer I expect to make about 7000 miles including one 2400 miles trip to European Street Rod Nats in Denmark. Future plans are -54 331 Hemi and 5-speed manual gearbox but NO visible changes on the outside. Early fifties saltlake racer and/or "Modified class Stockcar" is the plan.
Keep posting your project, please... and good luck!

...if ya dont mind me askin in this thread...

Zero, what wheels are you using? original?

Do you plan on changing them with the 331/5sp install ?

If so, what do you have in mind?

  4. gatz, I'm using the original 16" wheels with an original(maybe aftermarket) narrow, stainless rim. I've still got the fasteners for the hubcaps on the wheels in case I will put them on again. Rubbers are Firestone 5.50-16 front and 7.00-16 rear.
So far my plan is to keep everything this way. Car is app. 1" lower in front now.
For this season I deleted the bumpers.

Looks like a great Plymouth project! They make a great custom. What were you thinking of doing to it?
