well, i was all alone at Killer Kustoms World Headquarters today , but i did make a little progress on the 47 and i feel good about that. especially considering when i first woke up it was raining so hard i thought i should have maybe bought an ARK instead of the Chevy. so, i went back to sleep, got up a couple hours latter and it was GORGEOUS outside. so i went to work putting the new Cherry Bombs on the 47. a trip to the parts store and a few cuts and welds latter, we were in business. she sounds sweeet too ! next step was to tackle the GAPING hole in the fender. it seems it had rusted through along the brace at some point in time, and some "genius" decided the best way to fix it was to hammer the GOOD metal in about an inch, then mud the livin SH!T outa it. well here i am CHISLING the bondo out...
hahaha yeah that looks about as bad as mine except the guy that did mine decided to but aluminum tape over the cancer holes and then bondo over that. makes taking it down to bare metal pretty easy though. just grab tape and pull
Mike, Just fill her back in with some mud shoot some black primer and get it the Billetproof show! Knowing you you'll fab a nice metal patch and off she goes. Bring her to the show in any condition!
...and after a couple hours of cutting, welding and grinding it is damn near good as new! ... i am SOOO happy with how this came out. when i started grinding out all that bondo and saw that rusted metal so far up on the fender, all i could think was, "Where am i gonna get a good pair of fenders?" after it was all ground out it was'nt as bad as i started to think it would be, but i figured i'd have a little filler in it again before it was done. well, after i got it all ground down and hammer and dollied i realized i will need only the thinest swipe of mud over the welds at the top and front of the patch. it feels good when something you think is totaly wasted turns out so smooth! now i have to do the other fender, but i'm fairly certain (cross my fingers) those are the worst spots i'm gonna find on the car....
FYI, this is what it looked like BEFORE i started grinding the bondo out. i thought, "no biggy, just a little hole to weld up."!!!
Hey--capitalize on the hole and make it a place to run the new fenderwell header collectors! I tried out my 48 Pontiac tailights in the back of my 41 poncho coupe...I like 'em better.
Yikes..!!! GREAT job fixing it up though..!!! I will try to get those pics to you this week sometime, ok..?? Had a blast in Paso man..!!! wish you'd have come out.... someday we'll go cruising..... Later, Snacks....
i don't know what i want to do for taillights but i have to do SOMETHING! i want it to look like someone was givin Mom and Dad's old 47 Chevy, after they had bought a NEW 55, and cutomized and hot rodded the ole girl. that means nothing after 55 (such as 59 Caddy lights). i'm not REAL firm on the cut off year, but thats what i'm shootin for...
Looks great Mike. But I got a funny feeling you aren't done patching that old girl yet I do see alot of potential there though. Those old chevys run out real good with the stock OHV 6's in them. Should get you through the summer anyway. I WILL see you guys next week, right?
Nice work...I would be proud too...keep it up... Heh, I have had a few like that...you see a spint of cracking, you dig it out and end up with a 5 gal. bucket full of ****. Its unbelievable what people will do these days, its for that reason why "BONDO" got a bad wrap.

LOL, this ****er has'nt been touched in prolly 20 years. thats some old skool first generation bondo in there ... true though that the new body fillers are WORLDS better than the old stuff... did you kow that some schools used to TEACH you how to fill holes with chicken wire and bondo? can you believe that ****?? true story!
