Wondering if any HAMB members might by chance be agents for either mentioned insurers that could provide constructive claim advice.
Don’t use either , sorry . I have tried to deal with both . Progessive was mine , person who hit me on the Harley , was from State Farm . SOB started calling me at work . I took a day off work to meet him face to face . He wasn’t glad to meet me .
I would talk to your agent, I’d ***ume a policy is in place. If you suspect something you were told, Google it, discount the AI answers and get some real info. There’s websites for insurance stuff, legal stuff, etc, that have members from the respective fields.
I've had Progressive for years but since my local agent quit and an agent 50 miles away took over her accounts I haven't seen or heard from an agent for several years and do every thing on line.
Many adjusters are independent nowadays , they have no company loyalty , & again , different insurance rules for different states !!!! Let your AGENT deal with your loss , that's what they're paid for , refer adjuster / agent to contact your agent if you don't feel competent to stand up for your rights .
^^^^^ Hopefully, that (still) works for you... While it's true that different insur co's have different rules, as do States, alot has changed in the last 5 yrs, & since the last 20 yrs, almost everything has changed to the point of being unrecognizable. At least from what I remember... Hopefully, you can find an agent that will honestly communicate the realities of the insurance maze. Couple of days ago I talked at length to an agent(my new 'primary-contact', who replaced the lady I used for 20+yrs that retired. Ran interference for me as best as she could.) who's been working under the main agent who I started out w/~35+ yrs ago. Said they are now under contract to *absolutely NOT* get involved "representing" the client. (WtF??? & so then I'm paying them for just what - exactly???). Anyways, it's usually done w/3rd party adjusters - *supposedly* to "ensure" "impartiality". Uh-huh... She said ~ the most they could do, is call the 3rd party adjuster to get them to contact &/or visit the client, if they are lax in doing so. Not much else. I will say; that twice in the recent past, once worked out well, the other not as well - depended entirely on the adjusters' at***ude. Gone are the days of the agent meeting the client, evaluating the damage, contacting & pushing insur co for a better(more fair) return on the claim, & handing the client a check. & both agents have warned me about severe increases coming in both car & house policy $$$ amounts, even w/no claims on house, & excellent driving records & very few claims in last 40 yrs. Just doesn't matter.... Also told me that MN is in the top ~5 States that have the highest comp claims, at least on houses. So more $$$ for insurance. Sigh... Did find a couple of ways to reduce premiums, but still... Fkn Legalized Tontine Schemes... If things go sideways, & you've got problems w/an agency, or the insur co, do not bother wasting time claiming you'll sue. They will laugh, & that's mostly a (bad) joke anyways, since insur co's do have a battery of lawyers on retainer(s), & they are very good at what they're hired to do: screw you!. Instead, do***ent well *everything*, contact your State Insurance Commissioner, & give them a copy along w/the complaint. Then, (& this is hard) in a very nice, calm, friendly, voice, tell them that you are(have) contacted the State Insurs Commissioner about these problems, & they might be hearing from him/her soon. The State Insur Comm is the *one* person that insur co's are actually afraid of & don't want to hear from, since that office can & will(not guaranteed to be in your favor, though), hold them accountable, as he can remove/sanction their license to operate in that State. Good luck. Marcus...
My experience has been that having a good insurance agent is of major importance when dealing with insurance claims, I have changed agents when I don't feel that the agent is looking after my best interests and have had a few that were excellent IMHO!
I had a claim in the last year. Accurate do***entation is very important. "I think" will go nowhere. The State Farm agent was able to get an email answer from the adjuster where I couldn't. That was the most helpful part from the agent. If you have something minor, I wouldn't turn it in. Any claim goes against your rate calculation. If you don't have a long term history, it could cost you for years. .
If you have been chasing this since Jan, you need to call your State's Insurance Commissioner. Insurance claims are supposed to be completely handled in around 3 months. Someone is not doing their job. A call to the Insurance Commissioner will put a fire under someone's ****. Have your claim information available. The Insurance Commissioner is suppose to be your ace in the hole when dealing with any insurance company, or insurance issue. Then, you need to do what they tell you to do. My son has called our state's Insurance Commissioner on State Farm, and in a different situation, I've called our state's Insurance Commissioner on Progressive. Both times got the issues solved very quickly. All of the Insurance Companies that do business in your state have to answer to your state's Insurance Commissioner. Things get serious fast.
