Project: 29 model a (i dont have a name yet) started

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by chevy12, Apr 25, 2011.

  1. What shocks are you using? Extended and compressed lengths? Part number? I'm trying to get the right size for my '29 AA, and the shocks I have are too short.

Great project, by the way. So impressed with the frame work and the subflooring.

X2 on the chopping vs. your height. I'm 6'2" and that AA cab puts my kneecaps in my nostrils, even w/o a chop.

The shocks are from QA1 they are the streeters. They have about 6 different lengths to choose from depending on how your setup is and if you want a firmer or softer shock.

I have a plywood seat with foam in there now to test and set up my steering column and i have a foot above my head with no chop.

  12. How do you have the subframe attached to the frame?

sub frame? you mean the floor of the car? one page 2 you can see the 8 bolts that hold it to the frame. welded in some threaded bungs to the fame.

  14. Yeah, that's what I meant. I thought that's what it looked like, just thought I'd ask.

The difference^^^ is there are 2 chambers to modern shocks and the inner chamber should have oil in them at all times.. If mounted upside down the oil can run out of the inner chamber and hurt the damping effect...

so I did the back a little differently. took the middle section out.
then welded the sides in. no need for re leaf cuts when the pressure is off.
then pie cut next to the window to line up the seam again.
    back in place
    [IMG]
with no big cuts up the side
    [IMG]
body is done. now doors, windshield, and all the other little pieces.
