I think I'll go with PPG DP40LF Epoxy Primer.
Pro's n' Con's?
With A coat of (Right now I'm leaning towards) Dark Green on top.....Color could change by tomorrow...?

 

The Blue on my wagon is DP (90??) epoxy primer

Pilot Holes Done Ready for 1 inch hole saw...

 

Two Weeks ago I said "time for some paint"
...Every time I do something I remember something else that I forgot....

Needed to finish up the front frame horns...to keep water out...finish it up!
(Since i welded up all the holes in the bottom of the rails...)

Made a new spreader bar

Schedule 80 pipe I had laying around fit around it nicely to seal up the front!

The left Horn moved a bit from welding so it got adjusted with the rose bud!

"Suport frame" ends capped.

5 holes down - 16 to go!


Time for some Paint......

 

OK - No Paint yet....
Boxing front /spreader bar done.

Roll Hoop Brackets

Brackets Welded to frame (not subframe!) - Hoop welded to plates and bolted to brackets.
(otherwise I won't be able to remove the body in the future)

+ Need some of these...

Measure X3! - Should have tacked all of this on before I removed the body...Live & Learn.

Get the brake drum off - A small job...

Started with this - don't own a big puller

Ended up with this - a Rosebud and a sledge hammer for a few hours..FUN!

 

Maybe this had something to do with it........................................DUH!

This article only applies to early Mopar (pre-1965) 8.75" differentials with tapered axles.
The prevailing opinion when anyone asks on just about any Mopar specific forum, is that if you have a 1964 or earlier Mopar, the first thing you should do is swap out the tapered axlerear end for a 1965 or later unit. Why this is the prevailing opinion is easy to understand when you consider that doing a brake job on one of these axles can be a real pain in the ****. It requires a special puller to remove the drum/hub ***embly, and then you have to have a machine shop separate the hub from the drum if it needs to be replaced. The hub and drum are held together because the lug bolts are swedged (a procedure that is similar to riveting), which locks the two pieces together into one unit. This was a common practice back in the day and was used by Ford for decades. It's unclear why Mopar kept using this system well into the 1960s, but it's just something Mopar enthusiasts have to deal with.

I'm getting rid of those Swedged Reverse Thread lug bolts anywho!

Cleaning up the surface rust...almost ready for paint...then this happens out of the blue.

The sun cam back out again and dried it out.
So I painted in the breaks and rolled it inside between (2 coats of DP74)

I have 3 Dodges with those brakedrums and yes, they can be stubborn.

 

BTW...i didn't go with green.Final color will be Cherokee Red.

 

I was thinking of bondoing the welding scars...I'll leave 'em... gives it character!

The "holy axle" is cleaned...chamfer the holes B4 primer tomorrow!

Never really liked the look of those "****ons"...so I swapped the main leaf and cut some of the others...

Much Better... and lotso adjustment if needed!

Spring has sprung

That PPG - DCC Urethane stuff is strong!!!
I dropped a couple of leafs... not a scratch

I especially like those built in spring clamps.

Brakes are kinda "billety"....(don't tell anyone)...rounded off the cornes and i'l paint'em black..

Paid 100bucks at the swap met with caliper and all...

Paint stripper...

It's like a model car.

 

So glad I found this thread! I took time to read the whole thing and really enjoyed it. Your photos are great and the post are awsom. I have a 26 T coupe ive had for 18yrs I wouldn't take anything for. It sets on a 32 frame with a SuperBell axle and 4 bar front and back. I hope you enjoy your hot rod as much as I enjoy mine..............(coupe is in RodAction mag July '85 issue pg26)

Seals fit in center of backing plates....

It uses shims in liu of adjusters...
