Did you draw this chassis up and design it before building? Either way what an emagination and skills you have.

Thanks........No prints or sketches, I just laid two sticks of chromoly on each side of the mocked up engine, trans and rear-housing and started to visualize it.....When you look @ the sequence of pics in this thread...your looking at what I was looking at as it grew tube by tube..I try to stay several steps ahead of myself....The driver area is dictated by SFI, but can be accomplished several ways........I am guilty of over building whatever I am working on at the time..This project is no different, I have been using thicker chromoly plate and tubing than what is required per SFI call out.....Only because of what it is..I am hoping when I am done and take it to an inspector they will pick up that I built this w/ saftey in mind....It should still end up fairly light even w/ the thicker use of materials and it will have way too much power for what it really needs......I am not a fabricator by trade nor claim to be one, just self taught...Just trying to build this donkey in the back yard...To me thats HotRodding..I wish their was a print, then again I would probably change that up as well.....The next build is going to be a short FED Dragster.....that project will be built on a diet and shoot for light as possible.....I think too many people rely on prints and such, people need to use their imagination more, your limited to your imagination and drive to create something different. I always hear ''Thats a Don Long chassis or someone else''....Maybe one day long from now..someone will find this car...and say hey ''Thats a Littleman chassis'', what the hell was he thinking ?..Ha ha ha .......Littleman

  3. No Dave- step away from your next build--You have DDS to finish. Your killing all your fans by not finishing it. After you do, then and only then you can build your short FED. It deserve to be finished. We'll all support you in your next build-PROMISE

Started on the front axle spring pack mount. Still need to finish up the welding on it before I mount it to the chassis, then its onto the hairpins and locator bar...I really want to get this thing on the ground for a look see....Littleman Dave

Dave when I saw the heading of this thread I was skeptical then I saw your name under it and knew it would be worth reading. Once again exceptional skills, vision and drive. Thanks for taking the time to allow me to watch this come together.

Finished up all the welding on the mount itself after work today and tact it into place onto the chassis. Still need to fab up some more plates that will come off the chassis to the sides of the actual mount.......Slid the rear wheels on to get a better picture of this as it comes together...........Littleman

Not sure how I've managed to mss this thread for so long, but I'm here now.
Simply amazing. The amount of vision you have is awesome. I've built a few cages, and know how it is to go off your visions, sometimes, like in thus case they work out, sometimes not so much.

Im anxious as I'm sure you are too to see this on the ground.

    Keep up the wonderful work.

  12. Have you figured out how you are going to steer it yet? R&P? You ain't got much room up front. Looks cool. A friend of mine owns the old Coleman Bros. rear engine dragster in Washington and it's even shorter than yours. I don't have a picture but I'll try to add one.

Its a great build so far. 'Bout the only thing I would do is to add some struts from the motor plate area to as far out as I could to the rear end axle tubes. The brace helps, but you have a lot sticking out from the chassie mount that with a hard hooked up launch you will get some toe in and after a few it will become permenant.

I was looking through all your other threads, the DDS, the Model A truck, and the last one.. Project Warpig.

Whatever happened to the Warpig? Is this what took its place? Either way, I dig this one more. It's looking better and better!

As usual your fab work is amazing! Holy shit that last pic for me really brings it into perspective how close you're sitting to the front end. You're a mad man.

I can't wait to see this one go down the track. keep up the great work!

Correct, this project took the place of WarPig. I did start on a box tube chassis for it, but that project was placed on a side burner once I was taken over trying to hit that changing number @ the strip while running my Truck...I would hit my goal then want to better it...It was never ending, glad it is over with, it consumed allot of my time but learned tons. The WarPig chassis or what their was of it was cut up......This is my first full on round tube chassis and really am enjoying working w/ chromoly and not building to someone's plans or idea how it should be done. This chassis I think is way better than what I had started on the other project...and is starting to take shape.....Littleman Dave

Matt............thanks !......But if you see Jimmy.....do not mention I set this car up w/ the buggy spring...he is going to freak because I did not go the torsion bar route....I am going to use it on the FED next...I will stop and show him pics..I can already hear him now..ha ha ha...Dave

I need to find out if I need a 10 lbs. fire saftey bottle or two 10 lbs. bottle setups for this car and the locations of the spray nozzels...I also need to find out if I need one chute or duel chutes due to running Alcohol, probably need to use the silver pack fire proof ones....I am shooting for the 7.50 and slower cert. If anyone knows of the 2013 regs.......I need to find out...I will order up on Monday for the new 2013 NHRA rule book.

Dave I believe people already admire your madness, resulting in hot rods which are rolling pieces of art ! The best idea's (hence your statements indicating you have no idea what you are doing) result in something new or different which has "The Look".....

The best creations are from nice, smaller shops which do not have build restraints !

BTW, if Tony and Keith (Rooman) like your build, that is all that matters !

Keep it coming, nice to see something different....

  21. Sure reminds me of Ol Noisy, can't wait to see it out on the track !

It is the semi modern version that I can run flat out.'' I hope''..I will never build a cackle anything, I will leave that for the ones that enjoy that.......It was over 21 yrs. ago on our honeymoon down in Florida...we went to Disney....but I said we must go to the Garlits Museum. It was their and when I seen a mid engine roadster for the first time.....It was bright orange and that car just spoke to me, I stared at it for a long time, kept gravitating back to it..Hell I wanted to hug the thing before I left..just thought it was so dam cool.It was then I told my new bride..''I will build one of these one day.'' And now is the time..........Littleman

I completed enough welding today to allow me to set this sucker onto the ground, w/ the help of my wife...I blocked the body up as well....My goal was to set it on the ground before the end of this month..its a good day.....Littleman

  29. Good God that thing is short in the front end. Good thing you got the legs too match!! Are you going to put any extra bars or gussets into the front end to protect your legs in case of the unthinkable? What are your plans body wise to finish up the front end? That thing is Kats Ass as usual. Keep on Keeping on Dave.
