If the tapered holes are positioned correctly, and as you tighten them, the tapers shove the aluminum block upwards as the taper bolt finally seats to the tapered hole.

 

It certainly helps when you can see the springs.

I'd be stripping out the allen heads or the aluminum threads for sure, lol.

I've had this happen before too. Showing off something that works as designed, only to be bombarded with comments about all the ways it might kill you.
