Supports welded to the frame just below the B pillar before:

[IMG] found a little rust. This is where it gets hard for me because part of me wants to restore everything which means I finish nothing! I have to keep telling myself it is a race car not a show car!!!!!

Finally got the front part of the cage out. I left the supports welded to the frame because chances are I'll need them if I start going fast.

Removing the rusty sheet metal cover that was welded over where the air vents on the cowl use to be. [IMG]

Not sure what I'm going to replace it with yet.

Personally I think this is boring stuff to post and I am definitely not trying to impress anybody with my ability to take crap apart but it helps me keep on track. Plus I need the encouragement from other HAMBers!

Hey, post the "boring" stuff! It can help young guys like me, and it's like your documenting it. Assuming this website will still be functional in 20+ years, your kids, grandkids, etc. can come and look at your build

What about square stock and cutting it/ bending it to your liking . Weld it back on.

What Saltflats said! Keep posting. Not telling you what to do but I'd put a full cage back in. You're going to want to go faster, never fails, been there done that. Plus if your going to race, safety always best. Shouldn't take you long with all that cute help you got! Really nice build.

I totally get what you are saying . I really don't have a problem with putting a full cage in. I'm just not fond of the cross bar that goes across the dash. Eventually I'll need one because of the modified fire wall though.

So just make up your own race car styled dash and mount in front of the crossbar, we have no rules in real Hot Rods.

Will do! Now that just opened up and whole different thought about putting the bar behind the dash. That would make for a nice hidden steering mount too! Hmmmm. Thanks for the idea. I will definitely look in that.

We were able to get the original windshield out without cracking it. Not too bad for 63 year old glass! Ps some of the helpers actually help and others just show up for photo opportunities. Lol[IMG][IMG]

I was able to convince eager helpers to remove the interior windshield trim. I figured how much damage could an 8 yr old do with a 20v impact gun! [IMG]

Got my super slick pedal assembly with master cylinder (not shown) from Lucky's Speed Shop. This is one nice set up. I'll be excited when it is installed! [IMG]

Ran into a little problem that I wasn't expecting. With the firewall set back there is not enough room to set the new pedal assembly up in between the firewall and the dash. [IMG][IMG]

Looks like I have a couple of options. Since the dash has was cut up pretty good when the funky off set steering was installed I was going to repair it anyways. [IMG]

One thought was to cut out the existing dash and replace it with this one that came out of a 56' 4dr Hard top that met its fate. Then I could possible make it removable. Plus I like the look of a semi stock dash.[IMG]

The other thought and probably the easier of the two is to leave the dash but remove the center section at the two seems at either end of the dash. Then either replace it with the center section from the stock dash or add a piece of stainless like this one. The picture is not the greatest but you can see the stainless center section. I think that would give me enough room to slide the pedal assembly up into place on to a mounting plate. Any thoughts or pictures from the Hamb guys?[IMG][IMG]

Depends on what you are after. If the extra stock dash will work, I would probably do that. If it was me......and it isn't....but if it was, I would try and fix as much of the butchered stuff as possible.

Thanks man. We will see. I'm leaning towards replacing the center section with the center section from the 56 dash. Only making it removable so I can install and remove the pedal assembly. By the way, the 56 pontiac looks good. You are definitely further along than me!

I've always liked the look of a sheet (stainless is cool) that runs down from the dash lip to the floor. This is where the gauge holes are now. This allows the full 10% setback. If you make it removable, you can work on the engine from the back side.

    Sorry I don't have a picture.
