Well, it's a cheap digi cam, but nonetheless now I don't have to develop rolls of film just to share project pics with you (although after this quality you may ask for film version, again). Got alot done with the filler and glaze, today, depsite the sticky air. Rain tomorrow. This is the flat patch of driveway the neighbors have generously lent (off the inclined road).
****, I don't know how it's happening, but am losing pics. It only downloaded 9 of the 20 pics, now the DCS bank is empty. Where the hell'd they go? I'll try and re-locate the "before" pic to join this fuel neck shoulder shot. It's been hella hard getting this area down right, hard to get the right angle to sand it all in even. The glaze is doin' a good job of fixing that. Damn, I wish I had all those other pics.
Here's the Before Shot, taken around March. In previous ownership, it received some well done corrective weld work.
P***enger side door jamb. Got all the intricate paint stripping done last week, now it's plain grey metal. Gonna have it the same Burgundy as the exterior, though the rest of the interior will be done later on. See the Cherry Bomb 'packs in the background? Had no idea they were Cherry Bombs 'til I started doing major clean up on the frame, in recent weeks. Will eventually replace 'em for Flowmasters, but, neat discovery.
Door way, free of old paint 'n filler. Looking at the welding to re-fill over, I'm wondering if I shoulda left it alone. It's the same on both sides. Filled the drivers' side upper rear corner the other day. NOT FUN. Overall, though, truck's remaining in good condition under those tarps, no matter how wet the weather gets. I'll re-take the lost pics tomorrow. What do you all think?
Me last April @ Bob' garage. Ever wonder if you knew how long the road ahead was, if you would've gone down it anyway? I think about that alot, lately, just so ready to be done with project and back on the road cruisin' in a purty Effie.
Heh heh, no, not yet. Funny, though: a co-worker wondered if it was the sneaky work of my gf's son Luke (15), who's been really helpful (I mean when I'm there, too), 'cause he likes to pull pranks and keep people in mystery. Couldn't believe I hadn't considered that end, before. But no, turns out it's not him. It was a fun avenue to explore, though. Don't know who it is, but glad the neighbors aren't bugged out by it, yet. I really liked yer original reply, Briggs- still need to weld work?
Took more pics today to replace yesterday's lost 'uns, got an amazing amount of work done before the rain fell, too. Thank you for not criticizing the cheap quality of the pics. Um: yet. Here's more of my Effie, "Champ" (as in, "runs like a Champ", or HAS before)
The Argus seems to work better when the subject's up closer. Just tricky fittin' it all into the frame. Stripping the back of the old primer was nuthin'. The old red paint beneath it was tatoooed, though. Thankfully, no deep rust underneath. Took care of some the minor dimples and dents in it, today.
Neat thing about having both overcast and sun today was seeing what the cam works best with... Damn Door Jamb...
The aim is to have the inner post/doorway area painted the same as the exterior, while dealing with the interior later on. Can you picture it?
Drivers' side jamb. My gf looked at this, after I tried to correct the lighting and all, thought it was abstract art. Touche.
I regret rubbin' out the old filler in the upper corners, and making myself try to replace it up there.
Smoothed over the side mirror post holes months ago, wishin' I'd gotten the old paint out first. Think it'll cause a problem later on?
Front of the hood. Someday I'll master Evercoat glaze... Luke, my right-hand kid, carved that teardrop out of a lump of bondo. It looks much better in person.
Gettin' better at sanding it in evenly enough, at least. The air got too sticky to lay more glaze, but got lots of touch-up sanding done around the rig.
Close up of the kid's teardrop. Maybe too close... But it's one of those signature marks of all his help, whether he intended it to be, or not. Thought you might dig it.
Forget to tell you, while working on it by the road today, had a few interesting p***ersby that were asking me about it. Made me miss my gf's Redding house, how I borrowed her driveway to rebuild the motor, right in front of the sidewalk. It was a nice enough neighborhood with foot traffic that thought it was quite the conversation piece. This woman today, Ruth, was walking by with her dog, she just marvelled at an older vehicle being brought back to life. We got to talking about how they were built Back In The Day (she looked to be in her late '60s or early 70's). You get to working so closely on it, you can tend to forget the uniqueness of what we do, of what we build. Put a lil' pep in my step, while sanding, is all. Have you had a recent experience like that?
This was some of the detail sanding, today, evening the lines on the front hood. Deceptively simple looking. At least 'til you start in on it.
Threeduece: I hear ya! Am gettin' more antsy for it everyday. Very close to primering, though. Greaseball: Were you the one that Germ's Ranchero? If so, sweet- what're yer plans with it? Deyomatic: Helps to hear that, thanks!
